Strong, Hurtt Need To Address Yahoo’s Miami Story

Posted on August 17, 2011 by Rick Bozich

Some allegations in the Yahoo! story mention Hurtt, the former Miami assistant coach who is now Strong’s associate head coach, recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach.

There is a photo of a check for $2,500 that Shapiro said he wrote to Hurtt as an interest-free loan that the coach repaid. There is also an allegation that Shapiro let Hurtt use his American Express credit card to purchase meals for the coach and large groups of recruits at a Miami restaurant on two occasions.

It’s certainly not the kind of stuff you want somebody saying about your recruiting coordinator, the guy named the best recruiter in college football by ESPN.com, the guy who directed the recruiting of the most talented class U of L has signed in years, the guy who has helped open up the Miami-area to U of L recruiters.

Shapiro described Hurtt as a "really good," friend. Did the coach encourage players to socialize with Shapiro at his house and yacht as Shapiro alleges?

I read this article and if these allegations come true, a lot of dog poop is going to hit the fan around the league.

I know you're being facetious, but Louisville has beaten us in recruiting even before the hiring of Clint Hurtt, mainly during the Patrino years and some during Kragthorpe. They have some amazing facilities at the 'Ville. I think we're closing that gap though, and we'll eventually have an on-campus stadium.

Charlie Strong has always been a very good recruiter, don't read to much into this.

Strong is a good recruiter, but Hurtt is in hot water right now.

But until Strong and Jurich are convinced the allegations about Hurtt in the story are untrue, it’s difficult to envision Hurtt surviving on the Cardinals’ staff.

Not to be contentious, but I looked up recent rankings of recruiting classes from Rivals. Thought I would share em.The numbers are BE ranks:

2007  #6 USF  #4 UL

2008  #5 USF  #6 UL

2009  #2 USF  #7 UL

2010  #5 USF  #3 UL

2011  #6 USF  #1 UL(Hurtts first year)

2012  #1 USF  #4 UL

Oh and Hurtts 2008 and 2009  classes were no 1 in the ACC.

Coincidence? I think not. ESPN just reported that The NCAA wants to speak with Hurtt(Shapiro's best friend)

The best UL classes also correspond with Strong's tenure at UL.

Last years Louisville #1 class had 10 miami area recruits, and 2 from the rest of Florida. I think those were all Clints guys.

Top recruiters by conference

02/08/2011 Rivals.com Football Recruiting

Clint Hurtt helped lead Louisville to the Big East crown in recruiting by handling business as usual in Florida. Hurtt's haul is almost as impressive as anyone's in any conference. Rivals.com goes deep into every conference to name our top recruiters for each one.
