Has anyone been able to speak with our coaching staff directly about this... seems odd he would transfer here not knowing he would or would not be able to play. Unless he is just done with football...

Sounds like the story got a little ahead of itself

gregauman Greg Auman

Talked briefly w/ RB Jarvis Giles, and he would like to transfer to USF but hasn't even talked to Bulls coaches. Can't transfer in Big East.

I think you hit it on the head about whether Jarvis was ever at UL.  He was suppose to transfer in to UL this January, but he never participated in spring ball, was never included on the roster, and suddenly rumor swirled that he left UL in June.  But no actual confirmation that he ever attended a class at UL.

That's the bigger question first.  Lots of guys 'want to' transfer but never make it in.  UL had a scholarship crunch in this last class.  They signed 29 in their 2010 class, and 23 in 2011 and that was suppose to put them over...and that never included Giles.  I wonder if Giles got word from UL that he wasn't going to get a schollie and then left there before enrolling.

But I do appreciate Tribune, and Times officials reaching out to Big East officials to alert them to what is going on. ::) ::)  With friends like that who needs enemies. :-\

According to this article he enrolled at Louisville therefore he can not transfer and play football at USF:

You mean, he must sit out a year before he could play.

He means he will have to sit out this lifetime to play at USF. You can't transfer from inside of the conference.

Not to be rude but who cares. Good luck to him- I hope he gets his degree and is successful, but even if he could play he wouldn't have an impact. He would be far removed from playing and enter a position where we have a lot of players on scholarship.  Give the scholarship to a high school kid.  Even if he walked on it's doubtful he'd see the field anyway

Sounds like Kantor got a bit premature.... he's got a knack for that.

Asking for the sake of learning.. Since i don't know all the technicalities about this rule:

If a player has a transfer restrictions like this preventing that player from joining with another team...

Is that restriction for the scholarship only?

Can the player choose to walk on and play without any scholarship and paying his way himself?
