If the Big Ten can have 12 teams, then surely the league can have two bloggers, right?

Beginning today, I'm joining Adam Rittenberg in this space as we both cover the conference you love. We're not splitting up our coverage by division, and instead we will both be blogging about the entire league. Which is appropriate, since it has already been explained to me by Big Ten officials that everyone is both a Legend and a Leader. Or something like that. I'm still learning.

I've spent the past three seasons writing the Big East blog for ESPN.com and am excited to get to know this conference and the fans who follow it. No offense to the Big East, but I'm looking forward to a different level of passion and enthusiasm in the Big Ten blog, and maybe now I'll actually get a chance to go to a BCS title game. (And hopefully my Big East-to-Big Ten transition will prove a little smoother than Rich Rodriguez's).

Might as well get one thing out of the way from the start: I didn't attend any Big Ten school, and I didn't grow up rooting for any league team, either. Sorry to douse your conspiracy theories so early. But I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for the brand of football and the types of universities in this conference, even if -- as we've very recently seen -- they don't always live up to their own lofty standards.

I'll do my best to try and live up to the high standard Adam has established in this blog. Be patient with me as I familiarize myself with the teams, players and coaches around the league. Shoot me a note in my mailbag if you think I've messed something up or if there's something you'd like to see me write about or just to introduce yourself.

Thanks for indulging me on this long-winded introduction. Now let's get back to doing what we do best here: talking about Big Ten football.

He just thinks he hit the big time now and is on his way onto better things. 90% of the people in the BE board seemed to not like him. I'm just glad I don't have to sit through another one of his murmuring and stumbling "in depth" videos again.

He admitted he neither attended a Big 10 school nor did he grow up rooting for one.

Those Big 10 fans are going to eat him for breakfast.  Good luck dealing with that ravenous fanbase.

what does it take to get to know the Big 10? They're shoved down our throats so much I guarantee any of us could probably blog about the league.

No reason to take a jab at the Big East, move on to your new job, remember the rungs of the ladder as you move up b/c one day you will be moving down that same ladder.

He is making a lateral move and now is cutting in on someone else's territory, giving up being the sole blogger from an AQ conference.  Definitely not a move up, but hey, if he's happy with it, good for him.  Glad we're getting a fresh voice there now.  Rittenberg is the big loser there though.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

    Michael Kelly
