You don't see as many 1-A players on that list as you would in 4-A because these are smaller schools.

We should be nowhere near as hyped about getting hill as we are about getting Grothe.  1A schools are nowherer near the caliber of 4A schools. Its a lot easier for a player to shine in 1A than 4A.

For those wondering, 1A vs. 4A has mostly to do with the number of students in your population or the area around your school. MOST 1A are typically private schools one or two standouts such as Hill.  In a 4A school the competition is much more tough. Hill is a man among boys whereas Grothe is a man among men.  I say if we lose Hill.......sobeit! We'll be fine he probably wouldn't haveseen the field here as a QB anyway.

Whichever decision he makes, should make for an interesting storyline when we take on the Canes in the near future. Did we find out where Miami's other recruit will be going instead?

I think it was Arizona State.

Excerpt from another story HowieP posted in separate thread:

Monticello Jefferson County High quarterback Carlton Hill said he will take his visit to UM this weekend but expects to honor his oral commitment to South Florida.

"USF is clearly ahead of Miami," Hill told the Tampa Tribune. "I never did de-commit."

Ryan Perrilloux, ranked as the nation's No. 2 quarterback, has informed UM's coaches that he will not take his planned tripped to South Florida next weekend, according to a source. Perrilloux, from Reserve, La., previously committed to Texas.

The Hurricanes were left scrambling for a quarterback after Derek Shaw of Oceanside, Ca., backed out of the oral commitment he gave UM last year. Citing a desire to stay near the West Coast, Shaw announced he will play at Arizona State.

I think some are "hyped" because of Hill's national ranking ..... for what that's worth.

Regardless of wheather or not Grothe is better than Hill, I still want Hill to come here.  If for nothing else just to say we beat out MIAMI for a recruit!!  That will just help recruiting in the future.  This year we get a look from Perilloux the #1 ranked QB in the country.  Next year if we steal the number 9 ranked QB from Miami, maybe that years #1 QB gives us a more serious look too.

As for the statements being made by his coach.  I agree Hill going to Miami would be a feather in his cap so he has a vested interest in where his guy goes.  Maybe he is also trying to get his name out there to potential colleges looking for a coach or an assistant too.   Who knows.  But it sounded to me like Hill was pretty solid about committing to us.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
