While I don't expect it to happen, his name was brought up.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES

Sources said Leavitt, 94-57 in 13 seasons at South Florida, will get consideration. O

I think Miami fans would revolt if they hired Leavitt. All 12 of them would be so pissed.

This sports betting site is giving odds on Miami's next coach:

http://sports.bodog.com/sports-betting/college-football-team-props.jsp

Not sure if that link will take you to the right place, so here they are:

Jon Gruden: 1/1

Jim Leavitt: 2/1

Brent Venables (the site misspells it as "Venebles," so you know this is a big-time operation): 3/1

Gary Patterson: 6/1

Marc Trestman: 8/1

Mark Richt: 10/1

Chris Petersen: 12/1

Mike Belloti: 15/1

Jimmy Johnson: 50/1

Leavitt at 2/1 is crazy. There's no way Miami hires him. I personally still think he could be a successful head coach, but even if that is true, he's certainly not the kind of hire Miami fans will be looking for.

you think randy shannon made their fans miserable. Wait till they get Leavitt. The fanbase would erupt. This would honestly be the worst hire of the century.

Well if the goal was to get a better character athlete with higher Graduation percentages as President Shalala has said.......Leavitt would be almost the exact opposite of that.

I would think both Mike Leach and Jim Leavitt would take the U back to their roots of the late 80's of being "Thug U". The boosters might like that but I doubt the president would go for it.

Have to wonder if they would stay right there in Miami and offer Mario Cristobal the coach at FIU. He is a Miami Alum and has been a decent coach for FIU......obviously knows the recruiting grounds.

There's no way his next job will be hc at a high profile program like Miami ...

I agree totally. I don't even think his next job will be as a head coach anywhere. He'll have to take a job as a defensive coordinator first, maybe even as a position coach.

But if he can work his way up to another shot as a head coach, or even if I'm totally wrong and he's able to get another head coaching gig right away at a small-conference school, I think he can still be a good coach.

this could work out very well for leavitt...

hypothetically lets say a big name gets the Canes job... You have to assume JL will be in the running for DC... He knows how to run a defense and is a hell of a recruiter.

He would be the man in waiting when this big name moves onto the NFL
