All of the following assumes ND finishes 6-6 or worse. At 7-5, they're prolly a lock for Champs.

If WVU gets the BCS bid, we should have a good shot at Champs if we're 7-5 or better, since it's in Orlando, and we'll likely sell a lot of tickets. At 8-4 I think we'd be a lock this year.

If anybody else wins the league (Cuse, Pitt, UL), then a 7-5 or better WVU goes to Champs. No doubt at all we'd be left out, even if we finish 8-4 (at 9-3 we might get the nod, but we're not going to be 9-3)

If we finish 6-6 and in 4th-6th place, we're a lock for the BOB - nobody else wants us

If we finish 6-6 and in 7th-8th place, it's home for the holidays

We just gotta take care of the games left on our plate.

1) If USF finishes 6-6 overall, the Big East standings won't matter.

2) I wouldn't discount on USF playing in Birmingham rather than St Pete -- depending on the C-USA team and the other Big East teams that might be available.

Interesting article.  With USC out, concern is there will not be 70 teams that are 6-6 or better - may need 5-7 teams in bowls.

No... that has never been the case.  The bowls have to select teams like this:

1 - Contracted teams over .500.

2 - If no teams available, select from contracted teams at 6-6.

3 - If no teams available, select any other team above .500.

4 - If no teams available, select any team at 6-6.

Ridiculous that more than half of the teams now go to a bowl.  Should be only half go so this year that would mean 60 teams = 30 bowls.  70 teams going is crazy.

It's possible, but we have some more games to win to get there, or anywhere.  If we're 6-6, we're assured of a bowl game, though no telling what it might be.  With a lot of optimism, I can think we might have a chance to win them all; but I can see us losing them all, too.
