Atlanta Bull Posted March 30, 2010 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 560 Reputation: 38 Days Won: 1 Joined: 01/02/2010 Share Posted March 30, 2010 While Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant was busy grabbing the headlines on Tuesday with unimpressive times of 4.52 and 4.68 in the 40-yard-dash, another wideout was busy turning heads in a good way.APCarlton Mitchell continues to produce solid times in the 40.Carlton Mitchell was clocked at a speedy 4.40 and 4.42 in his first attempt at the 40-yard-dash during South Florida’s pro day on Tuesday, according to a league source. The 6’3â€, 215-pound junior showed a nice improvement on the 4.47 40 he posted at the combine in Indianapolis last month. If anything, Mitchell’s ability to consistently run in the low to mid 4.4 range on different tracks will help solidify his place as one of the fastest receivers in this year’s draft class. The 21-year-old caught 40 passes for 706 yards and four touchdowns for the Bulls in 2009. Mitchell’s size, speed and ability to step up in the vertical passing game make him one of the more intriguing wideout prospects on the board.Update (3:58pm eastern): A third source has informed us that they had Mitchell timed at 4.46 in Tampa on Tuesday.http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Source-USFs-Mitchell-burns-up-40-at-pro-day.html

Considering that he holds the ALL-TIME USF record in the 400 meters, I don't think there was much doubt that he'd have a good 40 time. Most of the experts say he runs good routes and is not afraid to take a hit. The only real knock on him has been that he catches balls too much with his body rather than with his hands. I think he has shown great improvment in that area to NFL scouts at the combine. He's been working very hard to correct his mistakes and it is starting to pay off: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/200300-catches-a-day.html

Your point is well taken. However, when a guy holds the all-time USF record in the 400, he has to have very good speed as well as endurance.
