From an "insider" at www.BoneyardBanter.com

Just talked to Skip by phone... and first of all... rumors that he's

already taken the job at USF are FALSE.

Rumors that he's already been offered the job... FALSE.

Did he say he would listen to USF... yes. But that's no different

than any other time in the past. He has always listened to other

offers and seemed to always come back to ECU.

Bottom line is that coaching is a job... a VERY high profile job,

but a job none the less and like any other employee at any other job

in America you listen to what people have to say.

That's all he's doing.

He has always been very up front with the media and ECU fans about

that and I respect him for being up front. He is a very special

coach and person. I have worked with and around more than my fair

share of college coaches and NONE of them have ever been as honest

as Skip Holtz. Most of them would not give you the time of day when

it came to coaching rumors... and one former ECU coach made it very

clear that you better not even ask him about coaching rumors.

Hope this clears a few things up.

I heard from some guy I know on campus that the rumor coming out of athletics is that Skip will be named the new head coach tomorrow or Thursday once the contract is finalized.

In fairness, he probably has not been "offered" the job. However, what if the following question was put to him: "If we paid you X, and I'm not saying we would, but if we did would you be interested in becoming the coach?"

USF is probably waiting on their final meeting with CJL before making an official announcement.

Maybe he is trying to get some more money from ECU?

Skip doesn't have an agent, and based on comments from both Terry Holland (our AD at ECU) and Skip, he's never asked for more money.  That said, they have done things like add seating (7K new seats will open before kickoff this Fall) which add to Skip's income.  I think he mainly wants to leave ECU for the best job, not necessarily whoever will offer him the biggest contract.  I think he especially wants to be at a school where football is the sport.

I think it is pretty funny how people put Skip in the same boat as so many college coaches and also apply their opinions of his father to him.  Skip is very much like his father in ability and character, but he is a very different guy on the sideline.  All the football people I know who have met or have worked with Skip love him.

He's a different guy - he is very open and direct, and doesn't play games.  I'd absolutely hate to lose him.
