Christmas came early for UCF fans as three of the nation's top-rated prospects say they plan to wear the Black & Gold next year.

The Miami-Central "trio" of quarterback Jeffrey Godfrey, wide receiver Joshua Reese and cornerback Jammal McClain each announced their commitments to UCF Sunday night.

Rivals.com rates Godfrey as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. Reese is a four-star prospect and the No. 20 rated wide receiver. They were all recruited to UCF by assistant head coach and wide receivers coach David Kelly.

Godfrey passed for more than 3,000 yards and 43 touchdowns this past season, which eclipsed county records previously held by current University of Miami quarterback Jacory Harris.

Jeffrey Godfrey will be at UCF this spring to compete for the starting quarterback job.

He called earlier reports of a "commitment" to USF erroneous and wanted to set the record straight that he's actually committed to UCF where he's making preparations to enroll in January. He's excited that he'll be able to participate in spring practice and compete for the Knights' wide-open quarterback position.

"We want to come in and make an impact," Godfrey said. "We also want to get our education and get our degree. We see that we can come in and help to change the program around and help the players that are already there. We want to come in and do a great job, all three of us. We want to do great things at the University of Central Florida."

Godfrey also had offers from Florida State, Miami, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee and countless others.

Reese, who was also offered by Florida and Florida State, said they all wanted to go somewhere together where they could make an early impact.

"I kind of had a feeling it would be UCF or South Florida," Reese said. "I was thinking West Virginia or Tennessee also, but I didn't want to go too far. I didn't want to go to UM because they're stacked with receivers right now. At Florida they've got Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey so next year they're going to be running the ball a whole lot. I want to come in and play now. Talking to Coach (David) Kelly and my coach, he was telling me it would be a good move.

"They're similar to our offense and they're trying to throw the ball more. They need a couple things to get everything right. Yeah, I can make that happen. Over time, watching the games and talking to Jeff, he was like, 'Yeah, we can get in there and change some things. They just need some key guys to bring them up.' I was like, yeah, we can get in there and compete anywhere we go, but we can come in and have a chance to start our first year at UCF."

McClain is flying under the radar and his situation is similar to the recruitment of Kemal Ishmael, whom UCF signed last year out of North Miami Beach. Schools were just beginning to offer McClain after a standout season at Miami-Central. Prior to his senior year he had attended Hialeah where he was a wide receiver.

"We talk every day and we work every day," McClain said. "We're going to be together for another four years and we're always talking about stuff in class. We talk about the things we want to do and what we want to accomplish when we get there. We're trying to put UCF on the map and get the name out there. That's what we want to do."

UCF also continues to recruit a fourth Miami-Central player, running back Brandon Gainer, who has yet to make a decision.

Stay tuned to UCFSports.com for complete coverage of the commitments, including in-depth interviews with all three prospects.

Lets see have a chance of starting at UCF as a frosh or sit behind BJ for three years and still have to battle it with Carnes for PT doesn't suprise me. I was more surprised that  he committed to ups being we already have a top QB prospect.

It's a great situation for all 3 of them.  They all have a chance to come in and get PT right away.  Since we already have Carnes in the fold and neither Gainer or Reese Verbaled to us this really isn't a big loss.  This is a great get for UCF though.

What part of "He's excited that he'll be able to participate in spring practice and compete for the Knights' wide-open quarterback position." don't you understand? He wants to play/start immediately and he wouldn't be able to at USF. And to your other post... yes, BJ has the QB positioned locked down. Why wouldn't he? Yes he looked bad at times, but he was also a redshirt freshman, they tend to be up-and-down. He'll get better as he matures and gains more experience.

I understand calling Godfrey and Reese top prospects but McClain is under the radar at best.

Though I would really have liked Godfrey in Green and Gold,  I think that UCF is a better choice because the QBs that they have coming back stink.

We never had a commitment from Reese so we never really lost him but he would have fit into our offense very well.

With BJ and Carnes here for the next 4-5 years it's best Godfrey does move on, not sure how I feel with a 5'11" 170lb QB (I'm know he will put on some weight) anyways, to some of these other guys points, he may be better at another position.

come on now. every recruit that goes somewhere else is not a result of the McMakebelieve ``scandals.`` as many have pointed out some players would rather start right away at a barely-JUCO midmajor than come to a BCS school like USF with potential but sit on the bench for a year or two. that has nothing to do with bad press.

on the bright side the fact that we are deep enough that recruits who would start at other schools may be benched or RS`d at USF is a good thing.  it shows separation between USF and other schools like UCF, FAU, FIU, etc. that gladly start our leftover recruits much like we gladly start the leftover recruits from UF and Miami.

on the negative side we should not be losing recruiting battles to UCF for any reason. it is inevitable of course but it shows that we still have a ways to go to become a powerhouse program where kids are willing to wait a year or two before seeing playing time.  we just aren\\\'t there yet.

as far as the impact of McMakebelieve`s impact on recruiting assuming there is any (which has yet to be proven)...   it is not ENTIRELY McMentiroso`s fault. Leavitt bears some responsibility as well.  whatever happened in that locker room (seems that all sides agree it was an intense motivational speech more than any kind of assault or battery or malicious incident), the story would not have had such long legs if Leavitt didn`t have a history of outlandish antics on the sidelines and locker rooms prior to that.

IF (and i doubt it) the story has any impact on where recruits and their parents decide to send their kids to play football, it will not be merely that story alone but an accumulation of Leavitt`s ``hands on`` coaching strategies that may give them second thoughts.

but again i doubt it.  the ``Leavitt chokes players`` story is buried.

We couldn't start the QB if Daniels is considered the starter, and UCF has a qb need immediately.  They went as a package, so if yu cannot take the qb, you don't get the wr.

Also, there are tons of guys being recruited, at best we can take 25 per year.  100's of good candidates will go to other programs, that is sort of how it works as USF is not exclusive.

I don't think you have a single clue about recruiting and how it works.  Or you are not too bright.  Not really sure which it is sometimes.
