The guys with a low salary are typically new OCs that are up and coming.

Proven guys cost way more.

We can get a low paid oc but it is a crapshoot. You could get a diamond in the rough or you may get a total bust.

it is becoming a struggle this year for me when people talk about Central Mich and not Mich.  How things have changed.

Speaking of Michigan, it'd be nice to spend like the Yankees - the real Yankees.

central michigans OC is in his 3rd year. he makes $90k less than Canales. he has his offense ranked in the top 20 for the 2nd year.

Canales has USF ranked as the 53rd scoring offense in the country.

He never had his arizona team ranked higher than #110 in the 2 years he was OC there. so we basically pay a guy more after he proved he was unsuccessful at arizona.

Hey didn't Cincy hire Brian Kelly from central michigan after going 19-16 over 3 years? How did that work out for them?

Brian Kelly has worked out good.

What conference is Central Michigan in the MAC?

yes  and we will always have to hire from below us just as every other team including the almighty gators.

I would rather take a risk and hire a successful coach from below us than an unsuccessful one from our level like we have with canales, gregory, etc. leavitt loves to hire off of the unemployment line.

Yeah, and they have Dan LeFevour, a fifth-year senior QB, recruited by Brian Kelly, who was lighting it up the same time Grothe was. At 6-3 and 235, he will get drafted this year.  He has also passed Grothe in total yards from scrimmage.  The CMU offense is the same offense that Brian Kelly developed there when he turned that program around from a perennial loser to a "MAC juggernaut" (is that an oxymoron?).  He did take them from last to first in three short years.

Didn't Robert McCullum do that with their basketball team too or was that another directional Michigan MAC club?

and that's why we should have looked at their OC last year. he had 2 successful years at CMU. not 2 terrible years at AZ and then unemployment. Their offense is very similar. Their QB is their leading rusher as well.

the QB is far and away the most important position in college football.  having a dominant QB is a great tool and we should use them to the max of their abilities.  Look at any top team in CFB, 99% of the time they have a premier QB.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
