Davis will be a commitment for 2010, meaning he will play next season.

Davis is a good player.

I've known him for many years, he will do fine at USF.

I know Greg Auman previously reported that Claude Davis planned on re-signing with USF, but now Scout is reporting it as well. He was given three stars.

Welcome back Claude.

USFnation actually reported it back in November, before Greg, Mama! It was just placed on the front page because the story was written by scout's residential JUCO writer Scott Ekelund. The reason he wasn't listed as a commit was a very simple one. Scout doesn't necessarily give all USF recruits a fair shake when it comes to star-rankings. When Claude Davis went to JUCO he had a new profile created and he had to start at 1-star despite being a 3-star recruit out of HS.

So if USFnation had listed him as a commit when he was a 1-star, there is a good chance he probably would have been ignored by the so-called experts at Scout who are responsible for the recruiting rankings. Because they held off, this kid was noticed a lot sooner. He put up monster numbers as a freshman and he actually now has a full evaluation on scout which only the really good players get.

The same situation for Justin Green, once he is re-evaluated by scout, he will probably be listed as a commit unless something changes.

Claude Davis and his team are having another great season:

EMCC's Claude Davis named NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week

October 18, 2009

SCOOBA – Rewarded for his three-sack performance in East Mississippi’s division-clinching homecoming victory over Northeast Mississippi this past Saturday, EMCC sophomore defensive end Claude Davis has been selected as the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week for games played Oct. 8-11.  The announcement was made Wednesday by the National Junior College Athletic Association office headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colo.

A 6-foot-4, 250-pound NJCAA Preseason All-American First Team selection, Davis was credited with six total tackles and two quarterback knockdowns in the Lions’ 48-10 triumph over Northeast on Saturday.  All four of his solo stops against the Tigers came behind the line of scrimmage, with a trio of quarterback sacks accounting for -29 yards and another tackle for a yard lost.

For the season, Davis ranks sixth among the MACJC statistical leaders with 7.5 quarterback sacks for a total of -78 yards, along with collecting seven additional tackles behind the line for -15 yards.  The Lakeland, Fla., native has also been credited with 37 total tackles on the year, including 30 solo stops, 16 quarterback hurries and six quarterback knockdowns.

A former prep standout at Lake Gibson Senior High School in Florida, Davis now has 15 career quarterback sacks to his credit at EMCC for a collective total of -137 yards.  A year ago as a freshman for the Lions, he was credited with 87 total tackles (49 solos and 38 assists), including 7.5 sacks and 15 other tackles for loss, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, three recovered fumbles and two pass breakups.

As a team this past Saturday against Northeast, head coach Buddy Stephens’ EMCC defensive unit held the visiting Tigers to just 146 yards of total offense on the afternoon.  Along with limiting NEMCC to just 65 net rushing yards on 34 carries as well as 8-of-19 passing for 81 yards, the Lions collectively had five quarterback sacks and eight other tackles behind the line of scrimmage to go along with a pair of pass interceptions by freshman safety Izauea Lanier of Gordo, Ala., and a returned blocked punt for a touchdown by sophomore linebacker Maurice Owens of Mount Olive.

Set to meet Itawamba Saturday afternoon in Fulton, East Mississippi is ranked seventh nationally this week in the JC Grid-Wire/JCFootball.com Top 25 and 10th in the NJCAA/JCFootball.com poll.  Now 6-1 overall and 4-0 in MACJC North Division play, the Lions have secured a second straight appearance in the MACJC state football playoffs for the first time in school history.  On the heels of last year’s 8-2 mark, EMCC has also nailed down a second consecutive winning football season for the first time since the 1987 and 1988 campaigns.

EMCC won it's final two regular season games and are headed for the playoffs:

Now 16-3 overall and a perfect 12-0 against North Division competition under the guidance of second-year head coach Buddy Stephens, EMCC’s 15-game winning streak versus the MACJC North dates back to the 2007 campaign.

Following last year’s MACJC state playoff appearance against Pearl River – EMCC’s first playoff berth since 1984 – East Mississippi is set to make a second consecutive state playoff appearance for the first time in school history.  As the North Division’s No. 1 seed for the second straight year, the Lions will play host to the South Division’s runner-up to begin the MACJC state playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 31.  The two winners of the semifinal-round contests will contend for the state championship on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Well, if he's not that means we are really deep with Pierre, Giddins, Forte, Bedford et al.

Speaking of depth at DE, I doubt that Wayne Dorsey, whose team will be playing Claude Davis' team for the state championship this Saturday, will end up a USF because he wants ample playing time right away. He probably believes he can get that more readily at FSU and some of the other schools on his list.

Bedford is a senior this year, and if this Dorsey kid is worried about not playing immediately he should look at what JPP has done. Spends almost no time in camp and is a starter his first year here.

I also thought that Bedford was a senior, but USF lists him as a junior:

INDEPENDENCE COMMUNITY COLLEGE:  Played in 2007 after redshirting at ICC in 2006... Will have three years of eligibility remaining ...

Claude was one of my favorite kids that we targeted a few years back, nothing has changed, this kid will make an impact at USF.

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
