I wouldn't look to Jatavious Jackson this fall. The consistent message I've gotten on him is that he's still a year away -- I don't think he plays this fall unless there are key injuries. A year from now, he could very well be competing for a starting job, though USF won't have any seniors on the offensive line this fall, so it'll be a deep group in 2010 ...

Perhaps I should have been clearer.  Rose is not a 2009 prospect for USF, for goodness sakes he can't even play in the first three games let alone what type of shape he would be in.  The best we could have hoped for out of him was that by the end of the season he would be a capable back-up.  It was the 2010 season Rose would be building for...which is why I was referencing Jackson.  I know JJ isn't a potential starter for 2009, but his development progressed nicely this off-season and therefore there is a much greater feeling around camp that he can be a solid contributor in 2010...SO, with Jackson looking more like the prospect they expected him to be, Savala nearly on campus already, Bass, Popek, Estenor, not to mention McGhin, and maybe Edwards (I doubt it though)...the 2010 offensive tackle positions seem pretty well shored up at this point.  THere would be no reason to jeopardize an incoming recruit just to make room for an OT that 'may or may not' play in 2010 ONLY.  If Rose walks on this fall then so be it, but the competition will be pretty stiff for him.

Yep, I remember Leavitt saying in a spring interview that Jackson will be on the Scout team in 2009 and that he already told him that. Of course, "plans" sometimes do change. The fact that Leavitt said he "does not plan on having Rose as part of the team in 2009," rule out the possibility that IF Rose becomes eligible he STILL won't be on the team? Perhaps, at this point Leavitt has no plans but that could change. Did you get the impression that Leavitt was ruling out the possibility of him being on the team?

nor was USF acting 'desperate'...Leavitt makes a pact with many former recruits, especially local ones that if things don't workout he would accept them at USF.  Leavitt probably felt obliged to take Rose, both from a legacy standpoint and talent, but in no way did we need him.

Another reason why Leavitt probably said he 'probably won't make it to USF' is we also won't have a scholarship available for him.  We're taking 25 this fall from our signing class and it looks to be all filled up.  Rose would need to walk-on...and I would rather have Savala and Bass at this time than Rose...Joyer, and Jacques, and McGhin too.  At this point all have much brighter futures.

For that matter, if people are getting off stealing one from FSU, then Jatavious Jackson's value and window is much greater for USF at this point than Rose (and quite frankly could be another reason the staff feels they don't need to make room for Darren).  Jatavious Jackson had a fantastic spring at OT, and was up to over 285lbs this spring.

even leavitt isnt that stupid

i dont buy it

What's 'stupid' about it?  Ever heard of names like McKenzie, Ean Randolph, Denson, and more...guys that we offered before don't come back for no reason.

There is nothing for you to 'buy'.  Rose was not going to get a scholarship this fall.  I am willing to bet that's part of the reason he's not going to be here this fall.  For a team 'desperate' kinda odd we're not trying to find room for him.

FSU would LOVE if Rose came back to them. He was the best lineman they had.

I can't imagine that IF Rose becomes eligible that he will sit out and lose another year of eligibility. If that happens, I'm sure there are MANY schools across the country that would welcome him with open arms.

Even though he never played a down for USF, Phil Steele still selected him to be on his All-Big East 4th team.

Interesting....when I posted on this forum that K. Williams would be the only juco to not play this year I got pilloried by several posters.  CJL said he would be an academic redshirt this year on the Bulls Vision thing.  He never says that kind of thing to deceive people.  It will be interesting to see if K Will ever gets onto the roster.  I hope so, because the coaches have gone way out of there way to try to get him on the roster, so he must be something special on the field.

We'll see.

Normal

Phil also chose us to be a national title contender last year mama.

You are right about Rose.  At this point his eligibility is still up in the air, but it's probably a closer yes than no.  The problem for USF is we might be staring at 26 eligible recruits and only 25 slots, and given Rose's current limitations is there really any recruit the staff would want to turn away or defer enrollment too in lieu of Rose?  Probably not at this point.

Well, he couldn't account for all our injuries, nor could he forsee we would lose more games as a favorite than any team in the country.  >:(

As for Rose, I do understand the scholarship limits we are up against.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

everyone plays through injuries...and losing as favorites is like calling yourself the king of the nerds.  Is it really cool either way?

The play out is simple, if Rose is eligible he will either come to USF as a walk-on, or go elsewhere.  My guess, as you suggested, is due to his abilities other teams will show interest and he'll go somewhere that he could play immediately.

Just remember that walk-ons have to get into USF as regular students, on their own academic merits ...
