Otherwise, Joyer would have the second-best mark in the Big East this year ...

Joyer's winning mark of 59 feet, 7.5 inches was nearly seven feet farther than his closest competitor.Joyer is the fourth USF football signee to win a state championship in track this month -- sprinters Kayvon Webster, Derrick Hopkins and Sterling Griffin were on Miami Monsignor Pace's winning 4-by-100 relay last week, and Hopkins won the individual titles in the 100 and 200 meters. Another USF signee, Hillsborough running back Lindsey Lamar, is running in the 100, 200 and 400 in the Class 3A meet.Lamar had the fourth-fastest time Friday in the qualifying heats for the 100 meters, running a 10.78, and also qualified in the 400 meters, with the seventh-best time at 49.18 seconds. He finished 12th out of 16 runners in the 200 meters and did not advance to Friday's finals. In addition to his state title in the shot put, Joyer also placed seventh in the discus with a mark of 149 feet, 10 inches.Posted by Greg Auman at 05:22:04 PM on May 8, 2009 | Permalink | Comments (0) http://blogs.tampabay.com/usf/2009/05/usf-signee-joyer-wins-state-shot-put-title.html

Have you talked with Joseph Byrd, who won the 200 preliminary and beat Lamar in the 100 preliminary, and his interest in USF?

Coming soon ...Maybe you could have Joey Knight ask him about that. I understand that he has USF as one of his favorites. He also wants to play football and run track in college. Seems like he would be a perfect fit for USF.

Mama_Bull Posted May 10, 2009 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 18,470 Reputation: 899 Days Won: 44 Joined: 10/14/2003 Author Share Posted May 10, 2009 Deerfield Beeach, headed by Denard Robinson (who USF offered but signed with Michigan), is looking to break the 4 x 100 record which the Pace boys set at the 4-A state championship this weekend:The Bucks' mission is to not only defend their relay title but also leave Winter Park as the undisputed sprint kings of Florida. That title now belongs to Miami Pace after the Derrick Hopkins-led Spartans ran a nation-leading 40.54 to break the previous state-best (40.60) set by Boyd Anderson in 1998 in the 400-meter relay, and Hopkins swept the 100 and 200 at the Class 2A Finals last Saturday.Witty said Pace's new time has raised the stakes for the Bucks and hinted at a rivalry brewing between the two powerhouses, who haven't faced each other this season but could set up a showdown at the Golden South Classic on May 30 in Orlando.''Someone in the neighborhood came and told me Pace ran the 40.54,'' Witty said. ``They are just going to push us to our limit because I feel like we have not been pushed to our maximum speed yet. We want to go out with respect, not get the big head but also show them we can break records, too.''Some questioned if the Bucks could match the 41.37 set at last year's state meet after losing Demarcus Fleming and Mantell Mack to graduation. Their replacements, Dotson and Witty, who returned from a football knee injury, have answered that by helping the Bucks top that mark at the BCAA Finals and then faster to 40.82, then the nation's No. 2 time, at the Region championships.''The state record was one of our goals from the beginning of the year,'' Brown said. ``Pace broke it. They are the best right now. It is up to us to see if we can break their record. We have a special group of guys. Hopefully they can do some special things on Saturday night.'' http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/high-schools/story/1036148.htmlWell, Deerfield beach won the 4 x 100 relay in Class 4A with a time of 40.64, but it still couldn't break the 40.54 record set by all our guys from PACE. ;DEvent 22 Boys 4x100 Meter Relay======================================================================= School Finals Points=======================================================================Finals 1 Deerfield Beach 40.64 10 1) 105 Dotson, Dauntia 11 2) 109 Witty, Adrian 12 3) 106 Mcdowell, Cassius 11 4) 107 Robinson, Denard 12 2 Coral Springs 41.32 8 1) 79 House, Stanton 11 2) 80 Jones, Jarmal 11 3) 77 Charlot, Jean 11 4) 82 Smith, Ryan 11 3 Ely 41.82 6 1) 167 Cannon, Terrence 10 2) 171 Payne, Rashad 12 3) 175 Williams, Gary 12 4) 168 Haughton, Wayne 12 4 Mandarin 42.26 5 42.252 1) 640 Robinson, Nick 11 2) 641 Cualeka, Worship 11 3) 642 Smith, Kirhy 12 4) 274 Bell, Kevin 11 5 Lakeland HS 42.26 4 42.259 1) 263 McRoy, Benjamen 11 2) 264 McRoy, Javares 10 3) 643 Breaster, Kendrea 11 4) 644 Watson, Rodney 11 6 Flagler Palm Coast 42.88 3 1) 648 Phillips, Justin 9 2) 649 Absolu, Gilbert 10 3) 650 Critcher, Kenlee 11 4) 651 Shellings, Corey 11 7 South Broward 43.03 2 1) 498 Blanford, Jenove 10 2) 500 Sylvestre, Johnioh 10 3) 497 Bent, Jareth 12 4) 501 Thomas, Andre 12 8 DeLand High School 43.24 1 1) 623 Wright, Jimel 10 2) 624 Thompson, Larry 11 3) 625 Watkins, Vic 12 4) 111 Joyce, Mark 11 There should be one heck of a showdown when both relay teams face off against each other at the Golden South Classic on May 30 in Orlando. These are the 2009 national results in the 4 x100.
