One player I'm really looking forward to seeing run is junior Joseph Byrd from Ida Baker HS in Cape Coral. He plays RB but could switch to DB in college. He lists USF among his favorites. He is a very good student and wants to also run track.

When combined with natural ability and a closer's mentality, the quietly confident Byrd has the potential to win the 100 and 200 at state, Butler said.

"If he can get out strong, I think he can double," Butler said of the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Byrd, who said he has been offered football scholarships by Florida International, Indiana and Iowa State to play running back and cornerback.

Just a reminder. There is a LIVE VIDEO ALREADY at the 3-A State meet. Kamran Joyer wil be competing in the Discus very shortly. He isn't expected to medal in that event., but is projected to win the Shot Put at 3 PM.

In the Long jump, two players we are recuiting, Terrence Mitchell (Lindsey Lamar's cousin) finished 2nd and Tracy "ace" Sanders (Brion Carnes cousin), came in 8th

In the Discus, Kamran Joyer placed 7th with a personal best throw of 149-10.  2010 USF verbal, Brion Carnes, ended up 15th and he'll have another year to try and do better.

Kamran Joyer DOMINATED the shot put with a throw of 59 ft 7 1/2 inches! Nice to see him finally get his State Championship. I think that throw may have been good enough to win the Big East this year. If not, it would be close.
