What do you mean if it's true? He has a broken foot and is out ~6 weeks.

As for the question, it doesn't help by any means. Though, it'll probably mean more time for Washington at the corner spot which means Roberts won't be out there to let anyone that desires to run past him since he'll be the nickel safety.

I think the "if it's true" remark comes from the lack of a link or source of the information.

Looks like he may try to return for 2009... from his bio on GoUSFBulls.com:

Yes Verpaele being out will hurt the secondary. I assume against Louisville and West Virginia, USF would have played in the Nickel now they are minus one veteran in the secondary that already struggles. Let just hope the DL and LBs step up.

I feel bad for Verpaele, but I don't see it as a huge drop off if Gachette can step in and take his place.

I agree.  I think with more playing time, Gachette will be better.
