South Florida (3-0) at FIU (0-2)  5 pm

--South Florida stamped itself as the team to beat in the Big East, or at least one of the main contenders, with a thrilling 37-34 victory over Kansas. The Bulls squandered their second straight fourth-quarter lead, but were bailed out by a late interception and freshman kicker Maikon Bonani’s walk-off 43-yard field goal. This week’s contest shouldn’t be as dramatic. This should be a chance to breathe before traveling to Raleigh to face North Carolina State.

--The Golden Panthers had a week off to regroup after back-to-back blowout losses at Kansas and Iowa. FIU has struggled in all phases, failing to score an offensive touchdown while giving up 448 yards of offense per contest. Now the Golden Panthers come home to christen their new on-campus stadium before going back on the road at Toledo and North Texas.

South Florida: The Bulls got a lift from fourth-string tailback Jamar Taylor against Kansas. With top running backs Benjamin Williams and Mike Ford still recovering from ankle injuries, the redshirt freshman ran for 72 yards and a big third-quarter touchdown. Meanwhile, starting guard Zach Hermann suffered a broken foot in practice and is expected to be out for at least a month.

FIU: Offensive coordinator Bill Legg has called FIU’s newly-installed spread offense – currently last in the nation in total offense - a “work in progress.†At least that unit is getting a few key players back. Starting center Brad Serini and running back Julian Reams were both injured against Iowa, but are back on the practice field and expected to play. Tight end Moses Hinton is also expected to play after winning his appeal to the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility.

South Florida has to … take the crowd out of the game. FIU should be fired up for its first game in the brand-new stadium. The last time the Bulls were in a highly-charged road environment, they weren’t able to put away UCF and the game went to overtime. FIU isn’t nearly as talented as UCF, but after the emotional win over Kansas, and with NC State up next, the Bulls can’t be looking ahead.

FIU has to … force turnovers. FIU has been fast and aggressive on defense, garnering 14 tackles for loss in two games. Since the Golden Panthers aren’t likely to sustain any consistent offense, their best chance to keep this close will be to win the turnover battle and hope the breaks fall their way..

Keep an eye on … South Florida DE George Selvie. After a quiet start to the season, the junior All-American broke out against Kansas with four tackles, three pass breakups and his first sack of the year. Selvie should have a field day tormenting a porous FIU offensive line that gave up six sacks against Iowa.

The number to know: 2 -- This is the second-ever meeting between these two schools. In 2006, South Florida rallied to defeat FIU 21-20.
