To be ranked 25th in the nation in total defense AFTER facing the most potent offense on the schedule is fine by me.

Beasts of the BIG EAST

The Bulls lead the BIG EAST in scoring offense (41.3), passing offense (301.3), total offense (494.0), pass efficiency (154.3), first downs (25.0) and third-down conversion (50%). They also rank second in rushing offense (192.7) and time of possession (32:13). Individually, Matt Grothe leads the league in passing average (260.0), total offense (294.3), passing touchdowns (7).

Offensive Trends

• USF set a program record with 5,383 yards of total offense in 13 games in 2007. It began 2008 by posting 520 yards against UTM, 504 against UCF and 458 against Kansas.

• At the first quarter break of the regular season, USF is on pace to break several of the offensive records it set last season. Below is where the offense compares to 2007 over the first three games of each year:

[table][tr][td]Total Offense - First Three Games 2007 2008

• This season marks the first time in program history that Bulls have scored at least 30 points in their first three games. USF scored 30 or more points in seven consecutive games from the final six games of 2001 to the opener of 2002. USF has only scored 30 or more points in three consecutive games on three previous occasions. The aforementioned instance from 2001-02, another three game streak in 2002 and a four-game streak in 2007.

• USF has 1,482 yards of total offense in the first three games this season, which is the fourth highest three-game total in USF history. The record is 1,544 set against Cincinnati (481), Syracuse (582) and Louisville (481) last season. Below are top three game stretches in program history.

Individual Trends

• Senior TE Cedric Hill has caught a pass in a team high 14 games, dating back to the North Carolina game in 2007. He had a streak of eight games with multiple catches snapped in the opener against UT Martin. He has multiple receptions in 10 of the last 11 games.

• Junior WR Jessie Hester is second on the team with 12 receptions. Hester has now caught a pass in 12 consecutive games, including six in a row with multiple catches. He collected more than one catch in 10 of those 12 games.

Out of the Halftime Gates

It may be Coach Leavitt’s halftime speeches... but whatever it is Bulls have been potent on offense and stifling on defense in the third quarter this season. The Bulls have outscored opponents 38-7 in the third quarter and have outgained opponents 556 to 64, or on average 185.3 yards to 21.3 yards. Matt Grothe has completed 17-of-23 passes for 267 yards and three TD passes in the third quarters of the last two games. He did not play after halftime in the season opener.

Mo.... Plancher

Junior RB Mo Plancher has been a hard luck kid for USF. He was the starting running back in 2006 before suffering a knee injury in the opener. In the 2008 opener he made the most of his opportunity racking up 65 yards on eight carries and scoring two touchdowns. His work against UT Martin helped him earn the start and he now leads the team with 160 yards rushing and three TDs. The three TDs account for all the scores in his career.

I second the question. I tried to use the <table> tags and got an "invalid html" message. How'd you do it?

Quote GarySJ's post.  You can see he used the <table> function.  It looks very time consuming to organize.  You might be able to do something in excel to get it quicker than typing it all out.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
