Just spent the last 20 minutes bs'ing and wishing DRube well on behalf of everyone on the board. Couple noted points for ya.

- Elgin Hicks sprained his ankle the last week of practice with the Colts and missed everything, leading to him getting cut.

- DRube got Huey's spot. Reason being from the Bucs was Huey couldn't hold onto the ball (8 drops his first day, 3 the next).

- Football is like a 9-5 job on the practice squad. He works from 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM everyday.

- He has not yet had a chance to return a punt during practice. He's got his fingers crossed that he will get an opportunity (He feels like his youth can beat out Tim Brown's age).

- Simms was his QB today and Rube had no drops and was catching everything. He said he was real sharp today (Rube doesn't brag so you know if he said he was looking good, he is).

- He's still living in St. Pete with his mom and his boy Simm (He's a cool cat if you ever get to meet him... clean cut!). They also hang out with boxer Jeff Lacy's younger brother who is a heavyweight. And for all the anti-Fisher sentiment on here, Rube was with his daughters while we were talking.

- He said he weighs about 175lbs and blames it on the European food from NFL EUROPE. He also said while he was with the Colts, Dungy didn't care for his receivers being jacked up... he prefers finesse receivers.

- If he completes the season on the practice squad, he is looking at making about $70K. I had to ask... he asked what I was making... I was quite envious!

- He told me to give him a call tomorrow night around 10 PM EST (7 PM PST here). I'll ask some questions if we get a chance to talk tomorrow if you guys post them up here.

- He said Bill Grammatica was getting a tryout with one of the teams currently. He got cut after reinjuring his back with the NY Football Giants. This was via his conversation with Martin.

- He said he heard this was a hopping college town where I live and I should take advantage of it (Noted that in my head)! ;D

I think that was about it... but he's excited to be home playing and wants so bad to crack the active roster! I kept telling him that Ray Jay is his house and to never forget that point! Hopefully, he won't be distracted being around everyone (He needs to being sleeping by 11:00 PM not being on the phone with me if he's on the field by 7:00 AM).

Thanks for the update Terry.  Too bad it didn't work out for Huey.  Wonder if that is why Pitt cut him.  Hope he regroups and catches on somewhere.

Wow Sheriff, thanks for the updates, very interesting to get word from the inside. I know we all wish D'Rube well and are hoping he gets his chance with the Bucs returning punts. Wouldn't it be something to see him break one to the house at Ray Jay like he did so many times for us in the past!

Sheriff,

Thanks for the offer to ask questions to DRube.

Could you please ask him about last year with the Packers?  It seems like he had a good camp (caught lots of passes in practice) but was never given any returns in the preseason.  Antonio Chapman is less than spectacular....how did he beat him out??

Also, how did Marquel get beat out by Brooks Bollinger after the two had opposite preseason stats?  Any word on that??

I tried calling tonight and he wasn't in. I'll try tomorrow before the TCU game and will get some answers when we get back in touch with each other. Hold tight but I will come through better than I did with the USC satelitte coordinates.

Ask him why in "Madden NFL2004" for Playstation, they made him so slow?  I'll bet he's played it and fumed at how slow they made him.  He's horrible in that game!

Man If we could get him on the board that would be something.  Hope to see him where he belongs, RIGHT HERE!  And I still think Huey would have a shot, he needs to be a tight end though.
