Chances are Bobby Bowden won't be coaching at Florida State if it ever happens, but the Seminoles coach said Friday that the struggling economy could lead to FSU playing more nonconference games closer to home, and USF could be a possibility along those lines.

"I think eventually, that could happen," Bowden said. "Yes, (gas prices) could change that. Whether it will, I don't know, but it could, sure could. ... You usually try to find somebody that you've got a chance to win, instead of getting your nose bloodied."

I read it that "you usually try to find a team can beat" after his statement about playing us, as a slam on USF.  Ie, I could see this game happening.  Need to save gas.  We can beat USF so it makes sense, someday...

I read it the other way.  In order to save money they on road expenses they may look at taking a chance on USF.  If all they wanted was a win, hell they'd ring up Mickey Mouse U.

That is what I read of it, which is why we won't play them under Bowden's watch.

I know Bowden - he is old, he isn't a very good coach anymore, but he has class.  I would bet he meant it as a compliment.  Basically FSU plays what used to be a very tough ACC schedule and Florida every year, so they aren't generally looking to fill those out of conference games with a tough match like USF.
