I don't think we're worthy of a pre-season #8 but apparently phil steele does.

Phil Steele, whose 2007 College Football Preview Magazine predicted last year’s meteoric rise by the University of South Florida, is even more bullish on the Bulls’ chances this season.

Steele ranks USF No. 8 in his magazine’s 2008 preseason Top 25, the Bulls’ highest ever preseason ranking. Steele also lists USF as the nation’s “No. 1 surprise team†and a “surprise darkhorse national title contender.â€Â

Two of Steele’s eight sets of power ratings call for USF to go undefeated and six of his eight power ratings predict USF will enter the regular season finale at West Virginia 11-0.

Just think where USF would be ranked if not for the "collapse".  ;)

And you know what...I've been thinking for sometime, though I haven't posted it, that WVU may do to us what Pitt did to them.  I thought that when I first saw the schedule.

if not for the collapse, we would be top 10 on all charts...    I don;t want to get into "if's" though...  We'll leave that to the UCiF crowd....

According to Steele...

Chances of going...

12-0 -- 25% chance

11-1 -- 50% chance (loss coming to WVU)

10-2+ -- 25% chance

You have to like those odds for a team playing season number 12...

I love Phil Steele's magazine, I get it every year. However, he is wrong about a lot of things as well so don't get too excited. He thought the Florida Gators were the 18th or 19th best team the year they won the national title. Last year he had Ohio State third in the Big Ten, they made the national title game.

I was at the hooters across from USF / UCH today for lunch, and Kirk Herbstreit was on.  The sound wasn't there so didn't know what he was saying, but all I could think about was how much he ragged on USF and how we didn't belong all season.  Then when Ohio State lost a game, he went on and on about the big 10 and how OSU had a tough schedule (played no top 25's by then) and belonged in the NCS...

Realized how much I cannot stand Kirk Herbstreit.

but now I like Phil Steele...
