Who has thoughts on the chances of the Big East expanding its football conference to twelve, and which teams would be invited? My buddy and I talked about it, and we think the most likely fits would be:

Notre Dame- After their TV contract ends in '10, there's a good chance they'll join a conference

Navy- They've become a solid team and could use the bowl tie-ins

UCF- Granted, they've beaten up on C-USA, but they made some headlines last year by playing Texas tough and with K. Smith. It's conceivable that they'd be invited up to the big leagues.

Memphis.

What are ya'll's thoughts?

It's official... Spring is over, summer is on the way, and nothing left to do until practices get going again in the fall... now we shall be inundated with BEast Expansion talk...

Anyways, only 2 teams I would welcome into BEast football with open arms, ND and Navy.

The rites of rummer.  Only thing missing is Joe chiming in with how ND will never join the BE and several newbies arguing with him and cursing ND and saying we should give them an ultimatum.  Well that's how it usually goes.

This again???  I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I like Memphis.  They would come in with an ok football team with the potential to get much better and a great basketball team.  This way, every season you would get 4 conference road games and 4 conference home games.  Kick ND out so basketball stays at 16 teams and let them go strong arm some other conference.

I have also echoed for Memphis to be at the top of the list for quite some time because ND isn't joining for football.

At the risk of being unpopular, what's wrong with bringing Temple back just for football?  They play in Lincoln Financial Field, so there's no real stadium issue, and if the team were ever to get any good, the Big East might carve into the Penn State strangehold in eastern Pennsylvania.

Then again, UConn made huge strides in a short time in ascending from D I-AA, so maybe the Big East could do a similar deal with Villanova or UMass?
