When a college offers a high school athlete a scholarship, is it for 4 years or is it a one year at a time thing?  Can a scholarship be taken away from a student once they are in college?

So if Heath comes up with recruits that are better than what he believes he has, he can drop current players and add his signees?

Yes... but future prospects might be less inclined to sign with USF if they think they're going to be booted after a year.

The more likely scenario is that players will see the writing on the wall and transfer out voluntarily. We've had no shortage of that in recent years...

Another option is finding a non-athletic scholarship for the player, to fulfill the university obligation while opening an athletic scholly.  I believe Leavitt has done this a couple of times recently.  In reality, a fair number of players realize they simply don't want to play anymore, but can't afford college without the scholarship.  It can be mutually beneficial.

maybe thats why he is offering scholarships to all of these recruits, like goins, brumbaugh, flowers, akol, etc.

That, and the fact that he'll be lucky to get one or two of them.

I'm not being a pesismist, I'm being an optimist.  These are top notch talents he's going after (as well he should).  It would be unrealistic to think that every player a coach offers a scholarship to would accept.  If he gets one of these guys, I'm happy, two and I'm estatic.

Dude, chill out.  It never amazes me how touchy people are about our bball program, and how they immediately attack people on it.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”

    Michael Kelly
