Malcom Jenkins of Ohio State and Vontae Davis of Illinois have been named semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, presented annually to the nation's top defensive back.

They are the only semifinalists from the Big Ten. Jenkins has 40 tackles and three interceptions this season. Davis has 58 tackles and four interceptions.

The other semifinalists: LSU's Craig Steltz, Boston College's Mike Silva, Oklahoma's Reggie Smith, Kansas' Aqib Talib, UCLA's Trey Brown, Arizona's Antoine Cason, South Florida's Mike Jenkins, Miami's Kenny Phillips, Wyoming's Julius Stinson and Notre Dame's Tom Zbikowski.

Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 19 and they will be invited to the college football awards show on Dec. 6, where a winner will be announced.

Is that really the best DB in college football?  61 tackles (good for a CB, not so much for a Safety), 1 int and 1 breakup.  That is not someone who should be on a list for best DB in the country IMHO.

stats are almost useless for DB's.

Reggie Smith or Talib will win it.

That hit from the Cinci game should be enough to win it.

NCAA rule .... At least one player from Notre Dame must be on all post season Awards lists.
