South Florida during football season, Duke during basketball season.

Please tell me what moron decided to tell ESPN that we want to be called "USF" and not "South Florida"? Anybody heard of UM oh I mean Michigan... how 'bout PSU .. oh I mean Penn State... or lets see OSU.... no sorry Ohio State...  ooooh how bout this one P.U.  ... errr Pitt? oh no can't call them Pitt....

There is nothing wrong with "South Florida". I am proud to be from South Florida. South Florida sounds better when announcers are talking about schools. USF ... just seems too generic when discussing it on TV.

Thats my 2 cents... thats worth about half of that..... ;D

I really cared about this once....

But let's get over this ****.  Are we really going to hash this out every week with a new thread on this board.

moron is a bit harsh since that is someone's personal preference. Although, I admit I prefer South Florida over USF. As far as it highlighting the directional school I actually think USF sounds more directional. It may not appear that way but it just seems that all the directional schools use their initials while most non-directional schools don't so when I hear USF the first impression is that of a directional university. I also agree with the person that said South Florida sounds tougher, just something about it sounds better to me then USF.

All that being said.....it's not really a big deal either way.

pretty much every big school uses several abbreviations and different ways to address their school's name.
