San Francisco University shouldve had a better team first!

Their too busy worrying about a warm winter.

1. It's the University of San Francisco.

2. It's "they're."

3. They outdate us by 100 years.

4. A better team first? Their football team went undefeated in 1951. They have four alumni in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As for other sports, they have two NCAA basketball championships they won behind a guy named Bill Russell.

They had to give up football because they didn't earn any bowl revenue in the 1951 season. Why? They were an integrated team, and none of the bowls would allow blacks to play.

"USF" means San Francisco all over the West Coast, and we have a long way to go before that changes.

  1. Where does USF.edu take you?

  2. Thanks for playing

Yes, because the fact someone here was able to register the domain name before someone in California could is evidentiary of what the general public thinks when they hear "USF." Though I'll give that person credit for foresight, as they registered the domain way back in 1986 -- before fsu.edu and long before uf.edu, which Florida just recently acquired (their official domain is ufl.edu)...

As bad it sounds, having usf.edu does sway a lot of cred our way with all us youngsters.

Anyways, I should have rephrased my first statement, they should have brought back their team after it got shut down.

Still no love from me to the San Fran U

obviously, in the football world, USF = University of South Florida.

all the pub we've gotten this year, and the fact that they don't have a football team means USF is football-speak for South Florida.

in basketball, it's a toss up.  they have alot of tradition over there.

it basically all comes down to regionalism... if you're on the East Coast, USF will probably make u think of South Florida first.  if you're on the west, obviously San Francisco is it.

Exactly. My point, though, is that a lot of people live out west, and thus for a lot of people, USF is in San Francisco, and since USF has been in San Francisco since 1855, it will take a long time to perform the Lacanian semiotic shift, in so many words.

very true, but at this point i dont think USF (as in South Florida) is all that worried about the West Coast.

they have a few markets out there... LA, San Diego, the Bay, Seattle, etc...  but nothing compared to the media markets covered by Big East football and basketball.

USF is just a brand name, so the determining of who is the real USF will be made in the midwest and plain states.  The school they identify as USF is the real USF.  Just like the real USC is Southern Cal not South Carolina.

Maybe we should conduct a poll in Oklahoma City, Dallas, and Minneapolis and see who they identify as USF? :D

This professor had to have been messing around, there is no way a former journalist and current university professor could write something that ****** and be serious about it. It's either that, or somebody from USF pissed in his cornflakes.

They don't eat cornflakes on the West coast, they all eat bean sprouts/curds. Not sure which one but they are trying to see if they can get Ethanol out of the **** from Californians.
