Its not a new formation its one of the oldest ones in the book.

It gives something else for Auburn to think about and spend time working on.We have a bunch of backs and just gives our offense more options.Great move by Gregory.Go BULLS !!! JoeB Posted September 5, 2007 Group: Member Topic Count: 0 Content Count: 9,657 Reputation: 537 Days Won: 9 Joined: 08/05/2005 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Lou Holtz employed this three back set for the Irish in the early 90s. It was tremendously successful in the redzone. Thats pretty much the only time he used it or for 4th and 1s. The Irish had Jerome Bettis, Rodney Culver, and Tony Brooks in the same backfield with Rick Mirer one year. All went on to play in the pros, along with a few of their linemen. Hopefully the Bulls have the same level of success the Irish had. If any of you are closet Gator fans, you'll remember the '93 Sugar Bowl (aka The Cheerios Bowl) when Bettis literally ran all over them. It was all with the three back set. Maybe Ford can be our Bettis!

Guess you could use the same idea for single and two-back sets as well (F-150/F-250). What can I say, I'm a Ford Truck man!
