Lou Holtz employed this three back set for the Irish in the early 90s.  It was tremendously successful in the redzone.  Thats pretty much the only time he used it or for 4th and 1s.  The Irish had Jerome Bettis, Rodney Culver, and Tony Brooks in the same backfield with Rick Mirer one year.  All went on to play in the pros, along with a few of their linemen.  Hopefully the Bulls have the same level of success the Irish had.  If any of you are closet Gator fans, you'll remember the '93 Sugar Bowl (aka The Cheerios Bowl) when Bettis literally ran all over them.  It was all with the three back set.  Maybe Ford can be our Bettis!

That was the last time the Irish won a bowl game-- correct?

that is the old school WISHBONE set.  Most highschool back in the day ran it.  Teams expanded from it and that is how the wing T came about.

That's what I thought also... It's about as old as it gets.

I say they should bring back the Crazy Bull. (Anyone else remember that?)

Seeing USF in a formation that wasnt 5 wide, shotgun or a singleback was a nice change of pace. Hopefully we'll see many more different formations this week.

I thought CJL or someone called it a "T" formation in a press conference.  Am I correct ???

For my input, I would call it the BULLDOZER or the PLOW

MikeG, its not the last time they won a bowl game, but its close.  They won the '94 Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M with basically the same team.  Mirer and Bettis were gone.  Irish were QB'd by a 5th year senior, Kevin McDougal after Freshman Ron Powlus got injured in camp prior to the season.  They were one play away from playing for all the marbles (BC field goal).
