This isn't "The Sporting News" -- it's an Ohio State fan blog hosted by TSN.

I like the enthusiasm... but man the comments are harsh.

Of the top of my head, here's my thinking. You take away Matt Grothe and you have what we had before, a very strong defensive football team. I don't care what anybody says: Matt made last year a success, the glue that held the very young team together.

Entering 2007-2008, Matt is a year older and is that much better. The team has an identity now, and we've got veterans throughout.

1) This will be the best defensive unit we've ever had at USF.

2) This will be the best QB and receivers combo we've ever had at USF.

3) This is the strongest coaching staff we've ever had at USF.

Are we better than last year's team? Absolutely!

Can we win the Big East? Go to a BCS? Beat Auburn?

It all depends on these factors:

1) The running game: Who's REALLY going to step up?

2) Special teams: at some point special teams will either win or cost us a crucial game(s).

3) Health & continuity: injuries and suspensions, etc., will make it all very problematic.
