Here is how the current race for the last THREE spots for MSG stand

10. De Paul 3-4

11.St.Johns 3-5

12.Seton Hall 3-5

13. UConn 2-5

14.USF 2-5

15.Rutgers 2-6

16.Cincy 1-5

Can the Bulls do it? I think upsetting either Marquette or Notre Dame at home is a must.

Good game, bad for the Bulls (along with UConn losing) it might take 7 to get to MSG.

How is this bad for the Bulls? A team who already has 3 conference wins who we have yet to play loses to a team who is still behind us in the league because of the tiebreaker we hold over them. Rutgers winning was good for us. Seton Hall is still 1 win ahead and the league and if we beat them, then that just helps our cause.

The last 4 games for us are huge (DePaul, @Seton Hall, Providence, @DePaul) since these will all be teams that we will fighting against for the 12th seed.. Providence winning today was far worse for USF than Rutgers winning.

Understood, I just think the overall parity of the league is going to be bad for USF. At this point 6 wins at MINIMUM gives us a shot at MSG. It's just going to be tough.

I agree about the parity of the league. St. John's goes and beats ND the other and then get absolutely drilled by Pitt today. The bottom line is that the lower 6 teams in the league are within reach and only UConn has a tiebreaker on us. We obviously have to take care of business against teams like St. John's, Seton Hall, and DePaul. If we can throw a surprise win or 2 over some other teams, then that should do the trick.

it's going to be hard, but if they play like they should; then the team will make it.

Six wins should be enough.  Five wins may even do it, if we keep picking off the other bottom feeders.  Unfortunately, we play most of them on the road and so the Bulls will either need to pull off a few upsets at home, or win down the stretch on the road against teams also fighting for their lives.

The Rutgers win over SHU was bad only if your goal is to finish 15th.  We're aiming for 12th or better, and so any ground made up on those 3 and 4-loss teams is a good thing.  A win over a higher-level team like Marquette would go a long way in a three-way tie if head-to-head is tied, since the next tie-breaker is record versus top team, then down the line.
