It is 'we'.

Alum donate to the school.

I (and other students) pay an athletic fee.

People who go to the games pay money for tickets.

WE support the team in more ways than one. There is no I in team

I don't mind the "we" stuff. I do it myself alot but my pet peeve is when, on message boards, other fans come over to congratulate "us" on a victory like we actually played ..... and even worse is when we we thank them for the compliment.   ::)

haha, yeah ill agree on that. thats pretty stupid

I've been having a debate with someone about the use of the word "we" when refering to a team.

He argues that fans cannot say, "WE won our first bowl game", because WE the fans did not play. All we did was pay and watch. He also says that fans say "we" so that they can feel included and important.

I argue that when a team wins, it is for the University, and that we are all part of the University, therefore WE won the game. We are the 12th man. Yes the team won it on the field, but the University won.

I wanted to see what other people thought about it.

this is one funny thread

Now THIS is one of the reasons why I hate GAYtor fans.  90% of them have never stepped foot inside of the Swamp or even the campus, yet they tout the team as though they spent 7 years getting their PhD at Gainesville.

I am not as liberal in my thinking of using "we".  I believe that if you try to make it to all of the home games every season, you can use it.  As long as you are an ACTIVE supporter (i.e. not simply watching the games on TV), then you have the right to use "we".

We = teams, fans or anyone who supports "our" school and its programs, IMHO.

End of thread.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
