9. FC Dallas -- Anthony Wallace, D/M, South Florida. Another Under-20 player and one-year college player. ESPN2's Stone and Eric Wynalda think this is a steal. He's versatile and can plug in anywhere. But can he replace the spark of Ronnie O'Brien, who departed for Toronto?

I guess since MLS is a struggling up and coming sport in America that they don't have the 4 year wait period that football/NFL has. Bummer

Can't have a wait period in soccer because the European clubs wouldn't be beholden to it anyway, so they could snatch up all the young talent for their academy systems if a kid wanted to leave.  At least this way a US player can can choose to go pro without having to head abroad.

Having said that, MLS is still the reason soccer in this country isn't what it should be.  Salary caps don't work in a sport where no other league has them.  You have to compete with other leagues, not just other teams.  Promote, relegate, and have each team as a separate entity instead of a central office running everything.  Remember these are the same people that screwed up Klinsmann which would have given our national team INSTANT credibility.

Throwing $250 million at a wing midfielder who can't get around anyone with the ball (good as he still is on dead balls and service) is another testament to U.S. Soccer's ignorance.  For that kind of money you could have bought Aaron Lennon AND Theo Walcott (Think LeBron or Reggie Bush-type young hype), marketed them to the country and our domestic soccer fans, and people could have watched them grow and develop.  What's better for US Soccer in the long run?  Instead we get an above-average but declining European club player flinging in crosses for PrimaDonovan, who'll actually be able to use them because he's wearing an MLS shirt instead of a US National Team one.  That guy plays for the red, white, and blue like he's got CCCP across his chest.

US Soccer fandom is Godless torture.

/end rant.

Congrats to Anthony... he'll be missed for sure, and he'll learn from one of the best.  His new keeper is Shaka Hislop, who was in the net for Trinidad and Tobago in the last WC, and stood on his head in maybe the best individual performance of the entire tournament in their opening draw with Sweden.  Guys has tons of EPL experience too, just having left Portsmouth.  Carlos Ruiz up front too, he's really good as well.
