In 2002, a year before USF football became a member of Conference USA, the Bulls finished 9-2 with the only losses coming at Oklahoma and at Arkansas... But as an independent at the time, USF had few options and had to rely on a "conditional bid" to the Hawaii Bowl.. The "condition" was that Cincinnati needed to defeat East Carolina in the final game of the season, leaving C-USA one team short of filling its bowl commitments... But East Carolina won, and the Bulls stayed home at 9-2.

One more reason to beat UC!!

Go Bulls!!!

I think that is backward-- ECU had to win for us to go as I recall.

I could be wrong.

Mike G is right, ECU had to win for us to get the Hawaii Bowl.  That was a long shot anyhow.

Cincy won and then went to The Hawaii Bowl and had an on the field throw down with Hawaii.

MikeG is correct. ECU had to win...

The 2002 score was, Cinci 42, ECU 26.

My position being that I relied on ECU to

just do one thing...one simple thing...

and they can't even get that right.

I remember hanging out at Beef's on Fowler

with a bunch of the team...Kris Iskra pacing

back and forth.

Very dejected after the game wrapped up,

and realizing I don't want to have to rely on

someone else for us to make it to a bowl game.

I was at Beef's as well, and it was a heart breaker. But remember ECU is the better team and should be in the BE instead of us. Isn't that what the folks in Greensville believe

Isn't that what the folks in Greensville believe

that...as well as alien abductions, Santa Claus and 'if I say it enough times it has to be true'. 8-)

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
