Well the Globetrotters used to play college teams all the time according to a Globetrotter history book I used to have. It had some stories of the really wild places that the Globetrotters have played, including in an empty pool! Remember the game at UCONN with the 40+ mph wind? Well it was similar as the pool floor was slanted, so the team going downhill would score and the other would catch up when they switched sides. :)

Is it me or does it seem equally strange that Syracuse would unveil their National Championship banner during an exhibition?

Me thinks that would be saved for the season opener (at least) or a big game...

There's more than one Globetrotters team.

Yea, the trotters did play MSU two weeks ago and they had Magic Johnson playing with them and Larry Bird coaching them. I wonder if Magic and Bird are travelling with the trotters the rest of the way or if this was just a one time MSU thing?

anyone know?

A couple years ago the NCAA relaxed the restrictions on who college teams could play exhibitions with.

Instead of "Marathon Oil" and "Athletes in Action" type teams, you can now play lower-division teams (like St. Leo), CBA teams (remember the Grand Rapids Hoops?), and other sorts of teams like the Globies. The Trotters played 5 or 6 college teams last year, and will play a few this year as well.

Yeah, I remember that game. Wasn't that the one where Priest Lauderdale completely posterized Tron on a reverse dunk? (Well, if CBA players got posters, that is.)

Yeah, I realize that...I just didn't know that action qualified the Trotters as an opponent.  And beyond that, flashbacks of Curly, Meadowlark and Geese sort of took me over...

Maybe we can play the Generals?
