USF right-handed pitcher Casey Hudspeth was drafted in the fifth round by the Houston Astros ... it was pretty much a done deal this was his last season at USF, but this high a pick makes it hard to argue ...

Yes. He's USF's highest draft in nine years, likely commanding a signing bonus of six figures from the Astros. He told me he had already told USF coaches he wouldn't be returning for his senior year.

you say this as if it's some kind of surprise to anyone that he's choosing to not come back. this decision was made last summer.

Lirette went 16th round, to Toronto. He hasn't decided if he's going pro or returning for his senior year. And Kyle's right -- Hudspeth had made it known he intended to leave after this season. Fifth round is impressive -- seventh-highest in USF history, and third player in the Big East taken this year ...
