Another player who drew attention at the camp was undrafted rookie free agent guard Frank Davis out of South Florida. Marinelli even grouped Davis in with Matua and Scott when talking about players who could earn a spot on the offensive line this season.

"[Davis is a] big, athletic man,†said Marinelli. “He comes in with a lot of pass-blocking background. Really I think movement-wise, the biggest thing is to just see what kind of run-blocker he can be. You can see him, he's 329 pounds; he's a big strong man and raw - which all of these guys will be."

I really would have thought it would be the other way around?  Our whole offense was handing off to Hall

The blocking technique we use, zone blocking, is mainly passing style.

Our OL's are typically very mobile.

Zone Blacking is the new trend in college football and has been for a while in the NFL for many teams. The Patriots use it, thus the reason their no name o-line was so good.

Many teams are using more and more zone blocking schemes at all levels and I felt that is what heard us. It's all about the reads and out Oline had trouble making those reads against better D's.

It's not new, but teams in college and pros for years stayed away from zone blocking. It's like the 3-4 it has been around forever, but people are just starting to use it.

Now that teams are passing more (1990 & on) zone blocking has become more and more a part of the game. Especially in the Spread Offense, which seems to be the base of our offense.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
