USF sailors dominated the SAISA (South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association) Conference Championships the past two weekends.

The Team Racing Championships were held April 1-2, 2006 in Charleston, SC. Seniors Kevin Reali, Ashley Reynolds, Jee Lee, and Andrew Blom were joined by Jesse Combs, Elizabeth Foy, and Tim King in defeating rivals University of Florida, College of Charleston, and Eckerd College.

The victory qualifies the USF team to compete at Nationals, May 28-30, which will also be hosted by Charleston.

The following weekend, April 8-9, 2006, the Fleet Racing Championships were sailed in blustery 20 to 30 mph winds, once again at Charleston.  Kevin Reali, with crews Ashley Reynolds and Tim King, led “A” division, while Jesse Combs, with crews Elizabeth Foy and Tim King, sailed to second in “B” division. Their combined scores gave USF the victory over eight other SAISA schools, qualifying the team to compete at Nationals May 31-June 2.

1. USF - 38

2. Charleston - 40

3. Eckerd - 47

4. Florida - 76

5. Tennesse - 114

6. NC State - 119

7. Georgia Tech  - 121

8. Clemson - 122

9. Rollins - 138

The Women’s team will have their Conference Championships April 22-23, 2006, hosted by College of Charleston. An all-senior starting squad of Kristen Herman, Jee Lee, Abby Ethington, and Ashley Wierzbicki will compete for the opportunity to sail at Nationals, May 24-26.

The first annual Parent/Alumni Regatta and Banquet Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, 2006.

The women's sailing team is considered a sport like football and basketball.

GO BULLS!!!

SAIL FAST!!!

WIN!!!

Collegiate Sailing is broken into Women's and Coed.  The women's team is an official NCAA sport at USF (thanks to title 9).  Coed is a club sport.  I'm pretty sure the team really started getting competetive around 96 to 97.  Since then the team has really pissed off some of the traditional sailing schools around the country.

The team sails out of the St Pete Campus.  The biggest competetive advantage USF enjoys over schools from up north is:  THEY CAN PRACTICE IN THE WINTER!
