Georgetown Laid Down For Us... and we didn't

Recommended Posts

At some point, someone's going to have to acknowledge the amazing defense these kids are playing, ESPECIALLY when you consider how shorthanded they are.

The WVU game... ok, maybe a fluke, you say.  They played down to us.

The 'Cuse game, sure they were playing down to us too.

But now Georgetown... that's three teams that are either ranked or on the cusp of being ranked that we've taken to the wire.

Maybe the reality is that we don't have the horses right now to put up the points we need, but this defense is lights out and deserves a little recognition.

Good points. I believe I heard on the broadcast that we are leading the BE in defense and PPG?? Even with all the minutes these guys are playing.

Georgetown is not on the cusp of being ranked, they are a NIT team at best.

However, the kids have played very hard and people need to recognize that they aren't laying down because they are out manned or out of a chance to make teh NCAAs

Joe, I beg to differ.  Look who knocked off #1 Duke today, hmm?

It's ok, no need to apologize, I already knew I was right.   ;)

Mac needs to put in the walk ons, even if it's for a couple of minutes. Our boys are just to pooped come the end of the game. You can't expect a team to play 36-39 minutes a game. You can't win that way. We have enough on the bench now, but Mac is too stubborn to play them. The ratio of points scored vs. rest and revitalization is well worth it.

There's a reason he isn't putting them in, they can't get the job done.  We're getting close with our starters, I actually have some hope for next year.

One game does not make a season. As good as Duke is Georgetown still has a hellish schedule ahead with a lot of youth.

I'm not saying they're going to the NCAAs.  I merely said they "were on the cusp of being ranked".  And, lo and behold, less than a week later...

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/rankingsindex

AP:  Georgetown ranked 21st.

USA Today:  Georgetown ranked 27th.

This is how many people describe a team that doesn't win too many games - they are a "good defensive team" or something to that effect.

It's a bit misleading, however, when you consider that our opponents are scoring more points than we are...to put it another way, our "great" defense doesn't really stack up to the teams who beat us. Or maybe they don't have horses on offense, either.
