Garris, Searcy, Camon Lauded By Leavitt

Published: Mar 31, 2004

TAMPA - At the halfway point of spring practice, South Florida WR J.B. Garris, DT Antonio Searcy and FS Javan Camon have been the highlights so far, Coach Jim Leavitt said.

Garris, a 6-foot-2 freshman from East Bay is working with the first-team offense, and Camon takes over the free safety spot from J.R. Reed, who's expected to be picked in next month's NFL draft.

Searcy, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound junior college transfer from Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, has worked his way into the two-deep rotation at defensive tackle.

Nice to see our first 2004 commit, Antonio Searcy, already moving up the depth chart. Our DT's are going to be awesome this year.

I'm not worried about camon's ability to hit as free safety, just whether or not he can time the hit after the ball arrives...  i remember him cleaning the clock of a few players last year on punt coverage.

Javon Camon was the nastiest hitter outside of Jay Mize our frosh season. He'll definitely help you remember he is roaming the middle. Thank God JR never got a redshirt or you would have never seen Javon. Javon is a pretty decent ball hawk to... he'll be alright out there. Not JR skills wise, but hitting wise, second to none. Some people will get knocked out this season.

man if our defense cashes in on the potential they have

and the offence can keep them off the field

we may have a top 10 defence by the end of the year

wasnt Camon the guy that drilled the UL or UC punt returner twice in a row. He got penalties but they were the nastiest hits ive seen in awhile there were no punt returns after that.

Camon was responsible for one of the hits, but not both... i forget who the other one was... i think it was another DB.

I don't think the RB position is really open.  It is more of a case that Andre Hall isn't here yet.
