TAMPA (January 6, 2023) – The University of South Florida women’s basketball team heads back on the road – for the fourth time in five games – to face Wichita State on Saturday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Saturday’s game is the only meeting of the season against the Shockers.

 

The Bulls, who continue their impressive play boasting a 13-4 record and a 2-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference, are looking for their fourth-straight win and seventh win in their last nine games. South Florida is coming off an impressive 77-55 win over Temple in its home conference opener on Jan. 3.

 

Elena Tsineke, who has been the hottest player in The American over the last three games averaging 25.0 points per contest, is averaging a conference-best 17.7 points per game on the year following her season-high 27-point performance against the Owls, her third-straight 20-point performance. Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu is second netting 16.9 points per outing after her 16-point, 13-rebound effort against Temple. Fankam Mendjiadeu is also leading the Bulls and The American – and is seventh in the nation – in rebounds per game grabbing 12.1 boards per contest.

 

Sammie Puisis is third on the team averaging 15.6 points per contest followed by Carla Brito who is just shy of double-digits, at 8.8 points per game along with 6.1 rebounds per night.

 

Aerial Wilson is second in the conference in assists (71) and fourth in assists per game (4.2).

 

Wichita State comes into its game with South Florida with an 11-4 record on the year and a 1-1 mark in the American Athletic Conference following its 70-63 loss at Tulsa on Wednesday night.

 

DJ McCarty leads three players in double figures, averaging 13.3 points per game, and is followed by Trajata Colbert and Jane Asinde who are netting 12.5 and 10.8 points per outing, respectively. Curtessia Dean is just shy of double-digits averaging 9.5 points per game.

 

Asinde also leads Wichita State on the glass, grabbing 11.2 rebounds per game.

 

The Bulls will return to the Yuengling Center, after they meet the Shockers, for a three-game in a four-game stretch beginning on Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. against Memphis (ESPN+) for the first of back-to-back home games.

 

South Florida will follow up its game against the Tigers by hosting Tulane, for the second meeting since Dec. 30 (ESPN+). Game time against the Green Wave is at 7 p.m.

Awesome job, ladies! Way to take control in the 2nd half. Puisis has been such a great, needed addition to this team. Heard on the broadcast she was leading the nation in 3 pointers made? Pretty awesome.

I know they said she led in 3 pt attempts. So wouldn't be surprised if she led in makes too.
