Last place team team from each division gets relegated. The lower league could have 4 corresponding divisions with 18 teams each, where every year the winner of each lower division gets promoted to replace the worst team in each division of the premier league. This would save college football. It made soccer the most popular sport in the world. While I don't disagree with your sentiment and novel approach (it will never happen though) ... I don't think that is why soccer (football) is the most popular sport in the world

I don't think that is why soccer (football) is the most popular sport in the world Sure, it's arguable. Though, imagine if soccer did not have the relegation model. I'm sure fans of the smaller teams wouldn't care nearly as much if they had 0% chance of ever competing for it all (even if their chance is still effectively 0%). Fan bases really just want the opportunity. Edited February 5 by BULLSHTR spelling

I don't think college football has a popularity problem

Media companies here would never let it happen in any sport.
