But remember in 1978 God changed his mind and spoke directly to the current head of the church and they changed their rules to allow African Americans to become elders. So it can happen.

If football makes you do the right thing so be it.

There is no "right thing" in this case. It's a private school. No one HAS to go there. If you don't like their policies don't be there student.

Seems so simple, but people disagree about what the "right thing" is...

Which is what I thought.  When you have 10 people with competing interests making a decision like this, there has to quid pro quo if you want to get anything done.

You want Houston?  I want UC and UCONN.  Let's make a deal.  BYU is not playing along?  Forget the whole thing.

What happens a lot in this situation is no one gets their first choice, so you end up with "compromise" candidates, that often should have been the first choice all along.

We can't agree on Houston or BYU?  Ok, let's take to Florida teams.  No one is overly excited, but everyone can "live with it".

Boom!  We're in!

Yeah, like when Alabama got blown out by an integrated USC team in 1970 they suddenly knew what the "right thing" was.

Exactly. And the Big 12 has every right to not invite them.

Was Alabama a private school with an Honor Code requiring its students to not act African-American? Confusing...

Anyways, I'm not getting into a culture war dispute, at least not in this thread. BYU is what it is.

I agree the Big XII has every right to not invite BYU.

They look pretty fertile for recruiting too.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
