Hitting off turf is weird, but not totally foreign since most tams have a turf batting cage and put down a turf mat in the batter's box when they're taking BP, but pitching off of it if you never have has got to be awkward, at best. Are the mounds turf? I was under the impression that those were still clay. I'm not positive though. I agree though, its an adjustment for infielders who are used to fielding on a natural surface.
