Lot's of kinks to work out. But however 9 dropped balls in the hands of the recievers is not Rod's fault. All but a few looked good tonight. It was encouraging to see Peyton grad the 2 TD's. It was not all Rpd's fault guys.

Show some respect guys.  I don't like all of the calls, but he's not the one playing on the field carrying out the calls.  There were mistakes all over the place.  We need to support the team through thick and thin!

The play calling was a liitle suspect at times, but, not bad enough to warrant Rod Smith be fired.  I thought he did a good job mixing up the type of plays called.  If anything, the wide receivers played very poorly and special teams.

Alot of it was not Rod's fault. If you notice, the play was called then at the last second changed. This was like last year. My question is, who changes the calls from the sideline after the play has BEEN called? Is it CJL? I don't know, but we need to get back to the no huddle, hurry up and run it offense, instead of being "precise" against the D. We could have worn down that D line more! I hope we do that against Louisville and Miami and the other teams. We had success with that O now we need to stick to it.    Reaper

What is RS's coaching experience?

Smith played Qb at division II Podunk University in West Virginia.

Then a measly grad assistant at WV.

He then became Qb coach at USF where he ruined the career of Ronnie Banks and coached Pat Julmiste to the brink of mediocrity.

He now somehow finds himself as Offensive coordinator by default for a major University in a BCS conference and has NO CLUE as to what he's gotten himself into.  It's truly pathetic that we could do no better than this guy.

PJ's improvement can be directly attributed to his spending less time with Rod "QB Killer" Smith.  Rod's too busy thinking up genius offensive plays.  He no longer has the time to ruin PJ's mechanics.

PJ's improvement can be attributed to less time being spent with Rod  Smith.

That could very well be true...I wasnt for promoting him in the first place, as promotions are EARNED typically.

Overall though it was the execution that was in question, other than the 7 min drive.  WR's have to hang on to the ball and julmiste has to throw it *better*.  PSU defense is just very good, also.

Considering they just hired him in the offseason, I think his job is safe for now.  However it should be monitored all year and if more situations come up where there is no sense of urgency, he should be on the hot seat.

The play calling in the red zone was pathetic and very predictible.  Everyone in the house knew we were throwing the fade to the short side of the field at half because we misused the clock in the last 30 seconds.  Peyton saved Smith a little face by making an incredible catch.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
