Or maybe, just maybe, we have a very green but talented QB with a bunch of freshmen on the 2 deep, who have only played four games together, and they aren't quite there yet.

It was the same thing last year.  And why in the hell do we assume our QB is so green that we can't put teams away.  He's 22 years old.  I watch 18/19 year old true freshman light it up.  Come on man!   We may go 13-0 and win the national title, but let's not make up silly excuses for struggling past weak teams

I think you're minimizing the value of live game experience and playing with guys for 3 years vs 3 months.

It happens all the time.  It's a cop out.  The OC's job is to maximize the talent he has.  We have the talent on offense to put teams away.  That ecu game should have never been close.  Illinois either.  Even the Elon game, we let that team back into it (even though a W was never in doubt).   This happened repeatedly last year as well with a seasoned starter at QB.  It's a cop out.

Pretty tough to be consistent on offense when the offensive line is pretty bad...

Then call plays to maximize what you can do.   You think every other team in the country is loaded with stud offensive lines.  3 steps and get the ball outside to WRs, run screen passes, run draws, etc.   There's plenty of ways to neutralize the d-line at the collegiate level.   OC's get paid lots of money to do just that.

So I guess that Pitt offensive lineman's helmet just jumped off his head.  Geez, there have been two hands to the face penalties called on Pitt's defense today, but that goes uncalled.

Pitt coach is going nuts.  These calls/noncalls have been really influential in this game today

  • Quotes

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
