I know it's been said in other discussions but I think it's worth a thread of its own:

Mike Hampton was an absolute stud last night. not sure the exact number of PBU's he had but he completely shut down ECU's big receiver Trayvon Brown (#88) in a matchup that the ESPNN in-game commentators were hyping all night. u could see the frustration in Brown's body language as the much smaller Hampton broke up pass after pass.

Hampton only gave up a handful of receptions & when the ECU QB+receivers started making completions by throwing inside, Hampton made the adjustment almost immediately.

he was an absolute bright spot last night.

i know there are more solid players on defense, but Hampton as well as Hoggins & McGee have really stood out to me this season.

Brown had 99 yards receiving. I wouldn't say shut down, but for the amount of times Hampton got tested, I would say he got the best of that matchup.

Just now, George Jenkins said:

was he the one that broke out for that big 60 yard play early in the first?

i don't think Hampton was covering, but I could be mistaken.

Yes and yes. Hampton actually recovered and made the tackle at the 2.

He bounced back from giving up that big play on the first drive and I think he got a little dinged up on his almost INT in the end zone and stayed in the game. It says a lot about him that he was covering their best WR when we have two senior corners.

Hampton had a great game. The missed tackle on the long play early was just a weird play. After that he was awesome.

Maybe best shut down corner since Mike Jenkins?

Point of order, that wasn't a missed tackle, that was an non-attempted tackle.

We've had several since to play downs in the NFL. Maybe Hampton gets his chance too

Yeah browns stats were decent if you just look at the sheet.  But I wish they kept track of targets in college, cuz I'm willing to bet brown was targeted close to 20 times
