  1. http://www.denverpost.com/cu/ci_23638006/ceal-barry-asks-colorado-buffaloes-cut-sports-budget After reading this I began to see things could be worse for us. While this "Big 5" school is threatening cuts, we are expanding, improving and generating money. We are chomping at the bit and ready for practice to start; they aren't even talking about college football out here (and CU has new coach too) like they are on talk radio and the newspaper like in Tampa. When I talk to people out here about college football, most could care less because things have been so bad the last 10 yrs. Really most of the alums to these state schools don't care that much. Walk into a sports bar on a Sat. and you see alum associations(we really need one out here too) from other schools watching their game and no local games. Really this town is just an NFL town. So while we are stuck in this junior conference for now, I really think that if we start winning some games and continue generating the right attention we will be able to fall into one of these better conferences.
  2. That makes no sense. If USF wasn't committed Skip would still be coach and the Sun Dome would still have that 80s feel. Not like Big12 teams haven't had slumps that were much, much longer than 2 years. Somebody elses thoughts and words, not mine. Maybe it was the lack of improvement in performance and personnel in other areas rather than on the field... I have no idea what the reputation is around the country for our Athletic Dept, but I think we have made some improvements as we have had slumps. But I guess when you are slumping and it's about money and conferences it's bad timing.
  3. I don't know by "lack of support" they mean attendance but you take away Ok and Texas and the rest only average about 50k and considering how bad our last three years with Skip were we still hit around 44k. Go back to the last 3 years of JL and we were up to 51k so I find it hard to believe that with an upgraded schedule of the Big 12 anyone would think our attendance would go down. I don't know about the average attendance numbers. Gousfbulls.com has the official attendance for UL in 2011 at 33,416. There was no way 34K people were there. Every school probably pads their attendance, They got the decimal wrong on that number. There were really 3,341.6 fans at that game. I didn't ask about a lot of details, but I will say this, we are not known for traveling well. So that could have been what the "lack of support" was.
  4. I was talking to a guy that has some nice contacts with OU, and from what he has heard is the Big 12 is watching us and a couple others. But they are doing research on their demographics and on what we can bring to the table. Said a few things that came up regarding us was lack of support (due to only 16 yrs of football) and if we can create a signicant foot print in the state. Said the last two years in football and inconsistent performance in basketball and baseball has made some of the remaining schools wonder if we are committed. But did say that the improvements in our facilities and academics is a great start. Basically from what I got out it...start winning and supporting your school, home and away and good things may come of it
  5. What if we took a little leave and have come back...how do I get my old stats and start date back?
  6. Bench comes off to me as a smart and athletic QB. One that can run when needed and also dump off to the 3rd and 4th WR; plus he has more size than Eveld in case of a hit. Eveld seems more like a good backup, a guy that can come in when needed to run the O but just doesn't have the ability to take the team to the end zone enough without getting flustered or flattened with a hit But I also remember last year when a bunch of people thought Floyd was the future and that didn't look too good last year, so I'll wait to jump on the Bench Wagon until I see some action.
  7. Can't have a 4th of July celebration without this little jam! http://youtu.be/5yaetvTj5DE
  8. GA is huge, being out of state, I have to use him as my main source for info. I always look for his tweets and blog stories. Plus he's awesome at answering questions on his live chats and following up on twitter as well. I like the other guy on the Trib, but he does seem a little behind. And the fact that he's on here and chimes in when needed is an added bonus as well
  9. There's no doubt that the interest and "excitement" for Bulls football is making a come back. The media has hopped on the bus and there seems to be a decent feeling of optimism with the alum, in FL and nationally. But before we get too high or all doom and gloom, we need to see the product on the field. We have to get better on all phases of the game and WIN. Other wise we can be like UCF and be a decent team with some decent talent. But be the step-child in FL I think CWT and his staff are really committed to turning this program around and building it into a program that can get into one of the 5 conferences, and then hope to "cash in" on a payday and play some games that could help us stay in the fore front of college football
  10. snagging some solid talent...really makes you wonder what Skip's plan was with the team
  11. Nothing new, the NCAA doesn't want to cap anything. So they let SEC dictate the norm and the rest either try to follow or get trampeled. It's similar to MLB, except there is no luxury tax for these big schools to fork over. So schools like USF have to get creative (like the Rays) and do other things and hope to stay in the game the best they can, but realistically they fall short. And the NCAA and BCS leaders could care less.
  12. Our O with Skip and Daniels was always a joke...I always liked the creative plays we used with CL. And we could have done some interesting plays here too. Landi was a QB, we could have used BJ in a bunch of different ways. But we went stale and predictive and the D's began to figure it out. I hope he does make it, the more Bulls we have on Sunday the more attention we can get.
  13. Sad that they have a program where they have to do things like this...I think most programs let the Seniors pick what unis they are going wear. Even sadder is the lack of support or interest in it And agree, we've spanked these guys so often we don't really see them as a rival. Just the closest school to ours
  14. It sucks, cause he was one of our "top recruits" that just didn't really pan out. As stated, he wasn't a very productive player when he was on the field, fumbles and drops are not the way to get the coach's confidence to keep you out there. I was always a little concerned about his lack of size as a WR too, have to think that didn't help with his health status. But I think CWT really is trying to establish a disciplined program, and when you look at our past few seasons, I think that is something we are lacking. And just like most organizations, there are certain rules and policies that are laid out. And maybe CWT has said no illegal drugs (like most companies have) on this team. Don't like the rules, then go some place else. I agree, there must be more to the story then we all know. But time to move on
  15. Just where we need to be, no expectations or hype. Let the coaching staff hammer in the fundementals and game plans and "hopefully" the players execute and we can aget back to winning some games and put the writers at the OC to shame.
  16. Too inconsistent the last few years will do that...make that bulletin material and blow that up and put it in the gym so they get to look at it each practice.
  17. hell, let's play them for the copyrights to the acronym. Make them change their names to SFU. lolol. And if we lose, we would have to be Univ. So. Fla. (and we would destroy them overall) .... I am just wondering, if you go up to a random person in let say Kansas CIty and say you are a USF grad, without saying anything else ... do they think Tampa/Orlando or San Francisco. I bet a lot of the results will depend on their age. under 40 probably will think of us, and over 50 will think of San Fran more. Hell when I say USF out here people know I'm talking about South FL. Abd I'm in the same state as the other USF Hit or miss here in CO...my boss is a San Fran grad so we go round and round about this topic all the time. I've had about 80-20 most reconize the FL part, but I still get asked during football season is San Fran has a football team?! We need to win more and I'd love to have them come out here and play one of the 3 teams in CO
  18. QB- Who knows how Bench will do and the rest are too unknown, could have a true fresh playing at some point RB- If we are going to run like CWT wants we'll need a big upgrade from the whole cast here Secondary- 0 (I think) career interceptions amoung all of them K- How many games did we lose the last couple years due to an inconsistent kicker?
  19. Ross Gload was one of the better baseball players that made it to the show and Andre Hall did some pretty good things for USF when he was our only RB
  20. Not a good situation, lack of experience, lack of depth and can't take a snap or hit...yikes
  21. They must have pissed someone off at Nike now too...geez
  22. If we can run the ball ok, that will open the play action and maybe some screens. Keeping plays short and quick; that can help the QB (only if he is able to take the snap) and keep the D on their toes a bit. It will be similar to how Louisville used Bridgewater his FR year against a lot of teams, run the ball and play good D. One of my concerns is our kicking game, we are going out there with an inexperienced kicker in a time we may need as many points as possible.
  23. The only fear I have is some outside help telling him the "chance" to play in the SEC will be better than the AAC. But he has a better shot at reps and play here IMO
  24. Too much uncertainty and lack of production at the QB position for us, so any other competition to the 3 we have is good, even the freshman hopefully pushes these 3. Not sure a transfer is going to come right in and make a huge difference, but if it motivates one of them to step up than I'm all for it. I think some of us need to slow down with win expectations this year, yes it would be nice to get back to 6 wins...but we are young and inexperienced too many of the major positions (ones that have a lot to do with scoring and stopping scores). So to think that a QB transfer is going to be a savior is a little out of reach for me.
