  1. That's what I've been thinking all year. Best case scenario, Woulard gets the waiver and Flowers moves to WR. Bench is best option if cwt wants to save his job unless woulard gets waver I agree, but coach likes Flowers more, so he'll probably get the nod. If Taggart is not over that mindset he better polish his resume. We need the qb that will give us the best chance to win out there. If it's Bench, then play him. It sounds like he has been more consistent the last couple of days. He just needs to tighten up on throwing those ints , but it seems like everyone is throwing them. He'd better start Flowers in a READ OPTION RUN offense. I'm not sure what system you guys think we're running but we're a read option team. Just like Auburn. I'd think more Nick Marshall ... If the QB in this system is not a real threat to run, this system doesn't work.
  2. He didn't put on 40 pounds. He can naturally put on 20-30 pounds in the year and half. I see guys do it all of the time. His test and growth hormone levels are likely high because of his genetics and the fact he's about to exit puberty and has seen a big dietary change where he's getting unlimited calories through fat and protein. Now the entire amount won't be muscle because it is impossible to not accumulate some fat while putting on muscle... (unless you already have high fat levels then you're just fat... so it's not important). He's likely grown in height too... From the pics I've seen of him, he put on good weight. The measure is how well he moves with it and I think that's what last year was about. He weighed 225 last season during his redshirt... I'm sure that wasn't all good weight but in a good S&C program that can be corrected.
  3. I have intimate knowledge of the Blackwood situation and he was never actually cleared by the school. He had a conditional admission but he had some things to do in the summer he did not get done. That's why he wasn't admitted. I'll just leave it at that. Im not sure what that tweet was about... but I was never actually cleared by the school. Not to throw it back in your face or anything, but your statements on Blackwood last year were almost a mirror image of the comment earlier in the thread (not yours) that I originally questioned: "Anyway... Blackwood is scheduled to report to USF in July. He was always scheduled to be there in July evidently as they knew he'd be arriving late." and "There was and is another issue and that's why he has always had a later date. I know exactly why he's not here and why he was scheduled for later." I cannot recall a situation where I've seen this type of thing work out. That's all I'm saying. I really hope he qualifies. I'm sure it's happened somewhere, sometime in the past... but from my non-insider perspective, this situation doesn't look super promising. I get you... but in the case of Bethel he actually completed the class... they are just waiting on the official transcript. That is the reason the listed him on the roster. When have we ever been burned waiting on an official transcript? Something is tickling my mind, player, potential coach, something. Point taken. He's not in until he's in.
  4. I think Jimmy Bayes and Vincent Jackson are going to make a formidable duo on defense. Jackson is on the move up on the depth chart.
  5. I love it... now I don't have to listen to the post meal chatter and pretend I'm interested in a game between teams I don't like. I can actually blow that joint and tailgate.. then see a team I like. Thanksgiving is as boring as easter... I'm not even going to pretend I like that day outside of the food.
  6. I think that's just a matter of a RS freshman not adjusting right away to the speed of college football. He's obviously intelligent if they have made him the QB of the defense. I think the play will follow, there's a learning curve for most players. Luckily for us at this point, he's got an entire season of starting under his belt and only a RS sophomore. Great point... I totally agree.

  8. I have always thought that he would start. I actually want him to. He's another I've followed. I saw him when he played out here at the Semper Phi bowl and he was one of the best guys on the field. I'm glad Taggart didn't rush him last season because he's the kind of guy if developed right, he will be a force. That kid is a pure athletic freak who understands football. He gets it.

Im not sure what that tweet was about... but I was never actually cleared by the school. But do get your point and understand your frustration. I can tell you that Bethel is closer than people think... a lot closer than people think. I'm really not concerned at all about him getting in... what my concern is him missing an entire week and not being able to participate in drills puts him in a catchup mode. He's actually not far away at all... who knows... me may actually be in Tampa right now.
  10. One or two people have said that but it was not known - publicly, at least - until just before camp from everything I have seen. And then the message was just a couple more days to get transcripts in. If he is still not admitted then this is FAR later than normal even for a transfer. Looking like an Eric Mayes situation to me but we will see. We need him. IDK... from everything I hear they aren't worried about if he'll get in... it's just a timing thing with the class, getting the grade posted, and getting the official transcripts to USF. I think this is normally done early in the summer but he needed a class... so this wait is normally not an issue but because it is so late, the processing time isn't running longer, it is just happening later in the summer. Eric Mayes was completely different, he was literally missing high school credits required to be eligible by the NCAA... it was not the school that said he was ineligible, it was the NCAA clearing house. Bethel is fine there. So he and Mayes are apples and oranges... not at all the same situation. They thought Mayes would qualify after his time in Juco but he didn't at a pretty late stage. Maybe the similarity is only superficial. Maybe Rohan Blackwood is a better comparison even though he wasn't juco? It was publicly reported that he was cleared and ready to go and then he didn't show up for camp because of some undisclosed academic issue. Never did make it in. Either way, I don't know how anyone can look at a guy who isn't here this far into camp and not be concerned, especially when we desperately need OL help. Mayes never went to Juco... he went to a prep school for a semester... enrolled following that and still had to sit a year out because he was missing a class still. He was admitted into USF and took the class but after the date it was required to for him to be eligible last season. So then this past spring he was declared eligible for this season. It was a mess but that was a NCAA clearing house mess... Blackwood is now in juco. He was actually never cleared, he was a gpa casualty and that's why he went to juco. I don't think we'll see him in a USF uniform.. but could be. Blackwood was was borderline when we recruited him and they were hopeful he'd make the grade his senior year but he fell short. Maybe he'll come back to USF... never know but he did want to stay close to home. So we'll see once he's done there but that wont be until after this season. But he was GPA casualty out of high school.... so he went to juco. Our issue isn't the entire Oline... we are fine inside. We are thin at OT until Bethel and Gibbons are participating. I fully expect Bethel really soon and Gibbons is getting closer to participating fully. I suspect we'll see them both really soon... what sucks is the practices will be closed so we won't have a lot to go on.

  12. BA, I'll be upset if Flowers leads in rushes, but respect the non-Mack pick. My worry with Flowers running a lot: 1. Injury risk (recall Grothe running, when the game was won, ending his career). 2. Play it simple. Let FSU figure out he can run when he shows up at Tally. I agree on Flowers. While I want him to run some, I don't want him taking off as often as Grothe did. With Mack, Tice, and Johnson I hope there isn't a need for that. Shouldn't be. Just feed that three headed monster and get the ball to guys in space. Yup.. I do recall that Grothe run well... all too well.
  13. So how would you guys rate the running game to date? I mean that's going to be the bread and butter of this offense.
  14. Thank you... that's good input. Out here soaking it up along with this sun. Good stuff guys
  15. thanks... That's pretty cool of you to let us know what you see. Appreciated
  16. Looks like But how did the running game look? That's where we will make our money. We aren't a passing team anymore. I assume Flowers had the better day... well that's what I get from all the information at least. I'm not worried about the pace in open practices... I think they are still working things out. But I did hear they scored on a couple of long runs with the triple option they installed. Did you have a chance to see the formation or plays? I was wondering how Mack and Johnson looked together.
  17. se puede decir "vamos a los toros"... es gramatica aceptable. pero cuando se habla no se usa "a"
  18. I think last season was getting guys ready for this season. A ton of young guys got to play and now those guys aren't so young anymore. It's crazy because the guys I see as leaders... I actually see who they are.. especially on the defense. Agguie and Byrd have appeared to assume that leadership role on the defense. I think once Taggart names Flowers the QB, the team will begin to rally around him. I see a lot of guys who have played some quality minutes and are adjusted now to the college game. We have a mix of talent and experience along with speed and now strength (I can't over emphasize how weak some of the guys have been the past 5 seasons... I go back to 2010 because we got pushed around a lot that year even though we made a bowl. I'm not so worried about the drops the first few practices... that happens early on. I'd expect that will begin to drop as they get use to doing things in pads... that's an adjustment for offensive guys, because now you have hindering your natural movement. The QBs will be fine... I think we are finally good enough to make a bowl and I'm loving it. Now... I totally understand the skepticism. Oh... My breakout guys this season... Chris Barr and Hill are the guys I think poised to turn heads. Hill is a brute and he can speed rush. I think him and Lee are going to be monsters.
