  1. Great getting recognized and getting extra money. What annoys me though is that this award doesn't jibe with the "preeminent" university recognition UF and FSU got after state set bogus criteria standards that were designed specifically to include UF and FSU only...they get 10s of millions extra each year that USF doesn't. Florida has 20 million residents and deserves more than 2 public "flagship" universities...USF should get extra "preeminent" money and be treated as a flagship too same as UF and FSU.
  2. Doug Woolard's son, Chris Woolard, is director of basketball operations at UK...a pretty big job. Rod Strickland was demoted from assistant coach at UK, to special assistant to UK coach Calipari after 2010 DUI. Strickland is starting fresh at USF...I will be pulling for him and wish him much success at USF.
  3. Strickland pleaded guilty to DUI in 2010 and his driver license was suspended for 12 months according to news article reports. I count four DUI arrests total. USF will surely examine all this in making any hiring decision on Strickland...probably already have. If he is on the wagon now, I'm ok with him working at USF.
  4. Masiello...forget about him..he's yesterday's news as far as USF is concerned. When's Coach Antigua getting here with his posse?
  5. Never really know what happened without reading all the case files...could have been just one dui with serious bodily injury to someone and some legal fiction used with a plea deal used to reduce penalties or keep him out of jail! USF will have to check out the details if they consider hiring him. DUIs suck...no winners.
  6. I think in Florida 4 dui convictions can tag you with a felony. It isn't easy getting hired at public schools in Florida with a felony history. I hope Strickland can land USF job if he wants it...he will be scrutinized a bit more before being hired as a USF coach.
  7. Forget whether or not he has degree...does he have a valid drivers license? Looks like Strickland already has 4 DUIs...fittingly, next DUI will be a 'fifth'. With USF's history of athletes having problems, and getting arrests, for driving without valid licenses..maybe USF athletic dept should have an associate AD for drivers license operations. Do you need a license now to drive a moped in Florida?
  8. 'Son in waiting' clause? Probably copied that from nut-job leader of North Korea...the dad has to be careful what he's eating and drinking with that kind of provision...son might want to shorten wait!
  9. Maybe credit our old AD, Doug Woolard, some too...remember Doug's son Chris Woolard is AD for basketball operations at Kentucky. The Woolards no doubt had a hand in this successful Antigua deal too.
  10. Orlando's twin brother, Oliver, is an assistant coach at Seton Hall. Oliver was an assistant coach under Coach Masiello at Manhattan last year. Small world!
  11. UNLV has an interim/temporary president now too and they are presently searching for a new president. Might not be anyone at UNLV who'll want to give a bunch more money to a coach during this transition period at the school.
  12. I think Rice is a done deal. He'll meet and talk in circles with UNLV AD a bit, shake hands with her, pack his bags, and head to USF.
  13. Could USF be bidding for Rice against a school other than UNLV? I don't think UNLV will pay Rice much more...maybe Rice is considering a 3rd school? UNLV is tight with money...they're AD is only paid about $180,000/yr...about lowest pay for any AD in US.
  14. Neal acts pretty mellow in video...looks like kinda guy if he gets a multi-million dollar contract the first thing he'll do is buy a truck load of weed.
  15. U Mass has a little commotion going on now in athletic dept with wanting to get football team out of MAC and most of Mass' other teams in Atlantic 10. The school hired sports consultant Bill Carr up in Gainesville to help with school's conference alignments. Carr does coach recruiting too...lots of background stuff going on with USF's basketball coach hunt now!
  16. Kellog can recruit Florida. He's got a kid, Tyler Bergantino, on his squad now from Spring Hill...30 miles from USF Sun Dome.
  17. I'd like Mike White coaching USF bkb. Funny how things work out sometimes...Mike's dad, Kevin, was the AD at Notre Dame who hired O'Leary and had to fire him 5 days later because of lies! Kevin is now Duke's AD. Kevin was a coach up at New Port Richey's Gulf High years ago.
  18. Where's TMZ when you need 'em? I'd like to know what popped up in Masiello's background check!
  19. I guess Masiello isn't going to be Tampa's new 'most eligible bachelor'. I'm going to tell my single daughter not to bother making for Steve a lasagna now.
  20. Maybe AD Harlan will surprise everyone by announcing and introducing USF's new head basketball coach halftime at the spring game next Saturday!
  21. Harlan can buy a house in LA (Lutz area) and he'll feel right at home. He'll like house prices in Tampa too a lot better than California costs!
  22. Yeah, when I first saw 'UCLA's Mark Harlan' here...I mistook for 'UCLA's Mark Harmon' and was WTFing!
  23. Ybor City is within crawling distance of USF campus.
  24. The highest and best use for the University Mall site now is probably something health related...hospital, medical offices, etc. that would compliment the USF Health west side of campus and too the VA Hospital and Florida Hospital up on Fletcher.
  25. Gainesville is really off the beaten path and is a pain driving to for most Floridians...only about 300,000 people total live in Gainesville 'metro' area. Tampa has over 3 million people in immediate area, and a fast growing alumni base...USF games are easy drive for so many USF alums and friends...USF Athletics just has to do a better job promoting interest in fan attendance, and USF grads, especially those living in Tampa Bay area, need to do a better job supporting USF sports teams. It is difficult for most UF grads to get to UF games without a long drive...so many USF grads are right in Tampa area and getting to USF games is easy drive for them.
