  2. ^ FSU? When'd they get mixed up in this? You mean USF? UF president Machen announced his retirement a couple of days ago, he's supposed to continue at UF as a professor after finishing as president next summer. It's a long shot, but who knows--he said he likes the Poly idea, he could surprise everyone and take the president job at Florida Poly if he is ready for pain...he is a dentist !
  3. The new Florida Poly University has no students, no faculty, no buildings, no accredidation, no president, no board of trustees, no federal financial aid, and now...maybe no land! School starts July 1, 2012 at Florida Poly? LOL http://www2.tbo.com/news/2012/jun/08/9/land-dispute-may-halt-florida-polytechnic-universi-ar-413639/
  4. I don't think USF Housing bought the Fontana/Edge building recently; looks like developer Edwards Companies out of Columbus, Ohio did. Edwards locally operates The Province Apts. over on McKinley Drive just south of USF campus. Even though it is a tear down with new replacement construction, regulators might not let them get building permits until Fletcher is widened--Fletcher is over capacity now for handling car traffic.
  5. If college football ends up with post season championship determined by winner of winners of Big10/Pac and Big12/SEC games, how's it matter to USF if USF isn't in one of the four big athletic conferences? Won't mean much being in either Big East, ACC, or a conformed combo of the two. I don't like what I'm hearing and reading so far about future of college football.
  6. FSU fans should all wear white again against USF for another "White Out" for luck...for USF!
  7. For safety's sake, the Sundome staff needs to work on exiting crowd control at future events. The campus police had cops stationed at road intersections on USF's campus to assist with cars at commencement exercise: the Sundome staff needs staff to do the same for people walking out of Sundome. The folks all jammed up on the terrace by doors high-fiving and picture taking should have been directed down into parking lot to make room for others trying to get out of Sundome; no doors should be "zip tied", locked, or chained ever during events; exit doors should be braced open for exiting crowd; the wheelchair ramp at gate "A" to east of stairs should have been cleared of folks standing still in it; the curb at end of wheelchair ramp needs to be removed so folks didn't have to have chairs lifted down off curb; Sundome staff inside needs to direct exiting fans to other less/unused exit gates. Not trying to stir up trouble here, just making suggestions for future events at Sundome.
  8. Was only exit gate "A" open at yesterdays's Sundome commencemen? It was way too jammed up with people leaving after the ceremony; too many people trying to squeeze through only about 12 exit doors at the same time--the gate needed maybe about 24 doors. With a fire, or a mob panic it would be pretty nasty getting out of the Sundome.!
  9. The transition bloodletting has already begun. Judy Genshaft, at a Lakeland meeting this morning, told USF Poly faculty and staff that many of them are getting the axe. Not the most funnest kinda meeting to start the week off with. http://www.theledger.com/article/20120423/NEWS/120429730/1001/business?Title=USF-Can-t-Keep-Everyone-From-Lakeland-Staff-and-Faculty-Told
  10. Too, I think Gov. Scott will sign the "Preeminent Universities Act" bill which will allow UF and FSU to charge market rate tuition above what other 9 state universites may charge. Scott's chief-of-staff, Steve MacNamara, is a tenured professor at FSU on a leave now to work for the governor. MacNamara is the real Florida governor making the decisions and calling the shots--Mac Namara will tell Scott to approve the bill allowing FSU, where MacNamara is a professor, to charge higher tuition.
  11. I think Gov. Scott is going to veto the USF Poly split bill later this week. Scott kinda showed his cards yesterday after signing the budget bill when he bungled his answer and created a bunch of confusion about a 5% tuition increase. Scott in his answer deferred to the Board of Governors sorta saying they would make decision about tuition increases. I think Scott is going to use the same logic for vetoing USF Poly split bill--Scott is going to say it's the responsibility of the BOG making decision about opening a 12th state university--not the legislature, not the governor, and especially, not JD Alexander! The problem now is how to shuffle the funding back to USF after all the dealmaking with the pharmacy school, USF getting $10 million per yr forever, etc. http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/the-buzz-florida-politics/content/scotts-suggestion-universities-limit-tuition-hikes-met-confusion
  12. Me too on the USF seal being roped off on the floor in the Marshall Center. I thought it was wrong for it being exposed and unprotected where any slob could just walk on it disrespectfully like it was nothing important. Not that I'm superstitious or anything, but it would probably be really super bad luck to step on the seal too.
  13. Great shots Bullshutter! The new athletic dining hall: Champion's Choice. Should the dining hall name be Champions' Choice to get all student-athletes involved and not Champion's Choice? Any grammar experts here?
  14. UF commit Ja'Juan Story got mixed up in a dustup the other night; wonder if the Gators are buying Story's Story? Ja'Juan could still end playing college football anywhere. http://hometeam.tampabay.com/blog/2010/aug/17/no-internal-reprimand-nature-coast-qb-jajuan-story/
  15. It is tough for schools like USF to grab kids out of places like Hernando county that have established local Bullgator feeder networks with alums that will sweet talk and get all over like the itch on talented prospects like Ju'Juan telling them UF needs them.
