  1. If we don't get the big prize, this might be fun to watch. Any chance it might happen? https://articles.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/john_canzano/index.ssf/2017/11/willie_taggart_to_florida_afte.amp The comments at the bottom of the article sound very thebullspen-like. I guess fans are fans regardless of the team.
  2. In 2025 (or so) "P5" will very likely be moot. I think contraction (not expansion) is inevitable. We may be paying to watch just the games we want to see or buying a package of games to stream online. I can see a setup where only the real traditional "power" programs will play each other so that the pay-per-stream model offers games with the most mass-appeal. That means all those coattail "P5" teams that aren't actually power programs will be able to join us in our pity party. Can't wait...
  3. So... Here are the games that could result in a "ranked" 6-3 team having a 6-4 record after today. How many of them need to lose today for the 8-1 Bulls to be in the top 25 next week regardless of our bye? I say at least 3, but I didn't take the time to analyze what currently unranked teams would pass us (too hard to measure since apparently any 3 loss "P5" team is better than USF). #23 NC State vs BC (NC State loss = 6-4 record) #21 Iowa St. vs #15 Oklahoma St (Iowa St. loss = 6-4 record) #24 LSU vs Arkansas (LSU loss = 6-4 record) #20 Iowa vs #8 Wisconsin (Iowa loss = 6-4 record) #25 Northwestern vs Purdue (NW loss = 6-4 record)
  4. Seems like a lot of people had high hopes for Banks based on these predictions. I have only seen him play the one game, but he looked pretty awful tonight. Hopefully he will get better. Definitely liked seeing Da Silva play well. Brad, I'll be sure to participate in future prediction contests. Honestly, I am having a hard time getting excited about the team with all the new transfer players, but I'm sure they will grow on me (win or lose).
  5. What's crazy is that, if not for all of that, we'd be ranked right next to UCF and Memphis would be unranked. No doubt in my mind.
  6. My gripe is there are a lot of bad teams in "P5" conferences that are lumped in as "Power" teams, teams that are not powerful. USF deserves recognition as a power team this year regardless of an arbitrary "G5" designation.
  7. I'm not going to lie, seeing USF (or South Florida) with a number next to our name makes me proud and happy. Having that taken away because of basically one miracle 4th and 24 conversion by Houston is not pleasant. Seeing all those 3 loss teams ranked is just salt in the wound. Knowing that it also will likely impact USF's chances at hosting the conference championship if we beat Tulsa and UCF is yet another kick in the nads. If any of the 2 and 3 loss teams ranked this week had played the exact same schedule as USF, with the exact same scores, and were 8-1, there is no doubt in my mind that those teams would be ranked even higher. I've been fighting this G5/mid-major label in my mind, but being 8-1 and unranked pretty much defines mid-major. Congratulations College Football, ESPN, sports media, and all of those complicit in this P5/G5 scam... You win.
  8. As an alum that went to every home game as a student in the late 80's early 90's and nearly every home game until I left the Tampa area, I understand the frustration of your post. Some of my best USF sports memories are from watching the men's hoops team, so I for one am looking forward to the season as always. I'm sure, however, that the Sundome will be mostly empty because too many fans want the season to be over before it even starts. Sad...
  9. No way that was targeting. They used to say that the QB, in situations like that, better have his head on a swivel. Also, is it time to change the name of the "targeting" penalty? Wasn't it intended to stop actual targeting with the helmet (a.k.a. spearing)? This year it seems the penalty has been called way too often for normal football plays. Or maybe instead they need to change it to a two tiered penalty similar to running into the kicker vs. roughing the kicker. Or they could just switch to flag football rules to really reduce the injuries.
  10. 90% ... The one I missed was a surprise. Good quiz. Thanks!
  11. For those that couldn't make it through the whole thing, it basically calculates how the top 5 teams would fare against our schedule and then compares that against how USF actually did. Simple right? It makes sense. Would any of the current top 5 teams be unranked if they had played our schedule? This metric tries to answer that question. Go Bulls!
  12. Looks like 5 of the top 25 teams ranked from 19-25 are playing higher ranked teams. If USF wins convincingly at UConn and there aren't 3 or more upsets in that group of 5 (sorry, couldn't resist), I will be looking for the Bulls to crack the top 25 this week. At least they should.
  13. UCF fans will like the "Resume S&P+" and USF fans can take heart that maybe having a sucky SOS is not the most telling metric when guessing how good the team is. College football strength of schedule rankings and how to have a useful conversation about them Included at the bottom is a new SOS-style ranking system that will be updated here each week. https://www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/college-football/2017/11/3/16556844/college-football-strength-of-schedule-rankings-2017-sos Spoiler Alert, UCF is ranked #6, USF is #20.
  14. I hope you are right! And I hope the fact that your post count number was 666 is not a bad omen.
  15. At least UCF will not have a chance to be the ones to ruin our undefeated season. Hopefully, USF will be the ones to ruin an undefeated season on black Friday. New banned phrase from this day forward... 4th and 24. Until USF actually loses another game, I'm still holding out for a "best season ever."
  16. I saw that too! Half second after your screen shot, UCF flipped up on the bottom right. I'm sure it's just ESPNs subliminal advertising for our game in Orlando or they just threw us both in because we're in the undefeated club as of now. Great to see USF on that screen even if that's as close as we'll get to the CFP.
  17. There is no logical reason for a fan to be upset. Sports fans around the world get upset for irrational reasons. I can't explain why, as a fan, it ticks me off to be slighted by the sports media, but it does. SOS is usually a good metric to use when guessing which team is better, but I feel like this particular team is special enough that SOS should be weighed less than it normally would be. I understand that non-fans may not see it that way. I agree that we are fortunate that the question of who is the top dog in the AAC should be resolved on the field this year.
  18. I was thinking the same exact thing when I heard him say that. I hope USF gets a big ol' upper case W against Houston. It seems that lower case w's mean squat to some people. I will be happy if the Bulls get any type of win, but I would also like to see a few sports commentators eat some crow.
